... I asked why she was not able to serve the salad and pommes sauted without the accompanying meat or fish! She was adamant that this was all that she was prepared to offer. My friend therefore chose not to eat at all. Madam then informed us that all four had to eat or none of us could, insinuating that we would have to leave. At this point I would like to offer my most heartfelt congratulations that obviously Mdm and Msr Thomann are in the happy position of being able to ...
Ribeauville, Alsace, France debra.engler35... before going to Morroco. We went out to get me some cigarettes and noticed that the City game was on in a bar so we watched that and I drank so Rose which was cheap Ian was on beer and it was nearly 6 euro a pint the most expensive yet.
Ian wanted to go back to the room but I was enjoying the rose so we went just to another pub around the corner with some locals in who bought us shots and ended up getting drunk again, I was ...
... here in France as all the letters and nu,bers are all the wrong way around so if it looks silly I am sorry and I will have to catch up with the rest of the blog another time as it will take me years.
Anyway we found our hotel and we upograded our room to have a kitchen so that could cook and rest and stay in a little before we go off to Morroco. So thats what we did we went to the supermarket ...
... with costumes and masks and bands. Damn near froze standing still for that long, but I had a good vantage point for the pictures so I wasn't going to move for fear of losing my spot. After the parade we got stuck into the gluhwein and some hot food then went back to the hostel for a hot shower, then out for dinner. We went to a local brewery that had a restaurant incorporated and had such a good time that we made it a regular while we were there.
Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany danandroz... We went near a town called Gueberschwihr (ya say that just once). It was a very pretty spot with a really nice walks to get to the climbing sites and the weather was perfect. We returned to Colmar for dinner and had our share of Alsacian cuisine. Tarte Flambee (basically a really thin crust pizza with cream, onions, and bacon) and Choucroute (a pile of saurkraut with about 5 different chunks of meat piled on that) are what the region is known for. We are not sure why ...
Colmar, Alsace, France meganandkevinToday was another fun day. We went on a wine tasting tour of France. Colmar is a beautiful little town. There is a stream running through it and lots of flowers everywhere. It is the first time on this trip that I felt totally screwed for not knowing French. I had a lady in the toy store yell at me because she wanted to move a rack of toys ...
Colmar, France skoettel... the statues scattered throughout town created by Auguste Bartholdi, who also sculpted the Statue of Liberty. And we even had a few hours to figure out our future plans. Recently, we both started realizing that we're nearing the end of the journey, so we sat in our half-timbered loft and used the free internet. We crunched some numbers and then re-crunched them (whatever the hell 'crunching' means), which was actually the first time I'd done math in close to ten years. Anyhow, we ...
Colmar, France the_stamms... with mustard fields (in full bloom) lining the highway. We decided to spend the night in Colmar, France. Colmar is in the Alsace region of France - which throughout history has sometimes been Germany - so the food there is French with a German twist (or vise versa). Colmar was founded in the 12th century and, miraculously escaped the bombings in WWII. This means that many beautiful old half-timbered houses still remain. Also, the old narrow ...
