The winds were moderate and side on, so we were making good time and the journey felt more rough than the entire ocean crossing again, it is hard to imagine how calm the sea was for such a long time. ... This effectively stranded us on the island with not much to do except walk through the quite coastal town and walk up to the botanical gardens to peer through the fence as they were greedy with their pricing. Time on the boat, easy with no sailing and a perfect nights sleep.

We did make it to the rain forest in the middle of the island in the end and getting there was half the adventure. Waiting at the bus ...

... us. Visiting a doctor in Guadeloupe is a little different, as there is no receptionist and there are no set appointment times. You just see the doctor on a first come, first served basis. The process is quite simple, upon arriving at the clinic you say "Bonjour" and ask who was the last to arrive. Then you remember who this person is and you see the doctor after them. Of course, this all happens in French, but Mum didn’t need to be fluent to work this out. ...

I was pretty happy with our new accommodation. It was formerly a very large single family house, now converted to accommodate a small number of guests. It had a central courtyard, complete with a pond, water feature and fish.
