the recap

... any idea what kind of amount will be charged. And the amount varied widely! Our friend had told us Avignon was dull and way too touristy, but we had a very different experience. Unless we're way more mainstream than we thought (not too likely). We really enjoyed the town, and if you haven't been in one of these medieval walled towns before, I'd think this would be a great one to start in. People were very friendly, and ...

Marseilles

... in suthern france and visit avignon and Nice using Marseilles as my base camp... I go to the bathroom and the instant I open the bathroom door, it is decided. Back to belgium I go. They had a turkish toilet, but a real one, all you had was a bucket of water and a hole... I ended up riping up pages of my journal.

Brioude

Actually, Villeneuve-d'Allier October 13 Christian took and was driving to Auvergne through the Puy-en-Velay and could eventually leave us on the way to the highway heading south from Clermont. But as the day was well entamed, it seemed obvious that we wouldnt make it further afterwards as it would be dark by arrival. So he invited us over for the night and for dinner which was really great and we accepted. We stopped on the way ...

Clermont Ferrand - the guest who just wont leave

Kel and Amanda continued on to Paris before flying out back to Perth, and I decided to stay and re-evaluate where I am going next. I had planned to go to Spain but that will be on hold for a while. I am turning into the serial squatter, but Nic assures me she doesn't mind. I should take this opportunity to tell you that not only is Clermont Ferrand famous for it's surrounding ...

Clermont Ferrand

From Lyon we travelled down to Clermont Ferrand to stay with Nicole. Nicole is a mad French woman who it is very easy to fall in love with - quite a character. We dressed up in some of her clothes and hats and posed for photos (see photo). On the night in question we ran out of wine (3 bottles later) and Kel and Amanda volunteered to go across the road to the Indian restaurant to buy some more, still dressed in beret and sunglasses. I gave Kel a ...

Just arrived in Espalion

I have been pretty pain free as well, minus a small blister i developed on the second day on my left achilles tendon region, and which underneath the moleskin and a european remedy ...

BB, 22nd August

... there are several hitch-hikers hanging round at the next stop. Ride with a quiet young Morrocan. Lond ride. Nice car. However Chris and I concur that his music choice ranks bottom out of all rides. Dropped off in the dark by the motorway. Climb over a fence to investigate what´s growing. Grapes galore!!! Chris looks on with pity as I stuff grapes into my throat. Set up camp nearby and feel a bit ill.

... Puy. Relief. Le Puy is a beautiful town. It has a crumbling castle perched on a comically craggy cliff in the centre. Find the internet and realise that Betabet is not in Le Puy. Take a bus to a little town nearby then catch two more lifts off kind souls and finally. Arrive.

Lyon!

Lyon is a beautiful city. I stayed in Lyon for a few days at my friend Ben's place. On the 21st there was a huge party in every city in France, so Lyon was hopping with bands and people throughout the city. The architecture here is amazing, and I also love the small town feel. It's a pretty small city, but I kind of like that.
