... hilltop villages of Marche we arrived.
Petritoli is a medieval village perched on a hilltop 358 metres above sea level in the Fermo province of Le Marche in central Italy between the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini mountains. The village is 16km away from the Adriatic coast and its many cute seaside villages.
Petritoli was founded by the Farfense monks around the year 1000 originally named Castel Rodolfo, maybe from the name of a feudal monk.

Boiled the kettle (aka saucepan) for our first cup of tea. It's cold!! The rain only got heavier, so we decided to give the ride a miss and go for a Wienerschnitzel instead! We got up early and did a 50km loop before the forecast storms. Was a lovely ride! We went over Passo Compolongo (opposite direction), Passo Falzarego and Passo Valparola. We snoozed when we got back to the van and had some warm left over curry for lunch. In the afternoon we spent time trying to fix the laptop, wandered through town and had a beer and a spritz before heading back to the van for dinner. It's bitterly cold! Bring back the hot days and balmy ...

... all the wonderful things we would like to buy (!) and found a couple of local treats including cheese and yoghurt. By the time we hiked back to the van it was 7.30pm. Where did the day go?! We had a platter of cheese, speck, crackers, carrots and apple for dinner, followed by our local Dolomites yoghurt. It's cold tonight!! Almost need to invest in a hot water ...

Today we ventured further afield to visit Ascoli Piceno, and explore the old town. We took the little tourist train to get the most out of the visit, which started from the main square - where a lot of the beautiful buildings are built in travertine marble. We also had a chance to try their famous stuffed olives which were yum ...
