... it was one of the best 12 miles we had ever walked…..a perfect day.


We had a more chilled out day on friday before setting off on Saturday on our first bike ride of the trip in search of the Col d’Aspin, one of the Category 1 Tour de France climbs from 2012. ... visitor in the night(s)

As we left Lourdes behind, a glance over our left shoulders towards the Pyrenees revealed the places where we had such a good time, covered with snow. Proper thick snow, that although undoubtable beautiful, would have wrecked the riding of the last few days.

Its been truly magical, we have been so lucky.

... made with vegetables sautéed in duck fat, ham hock and the infamous Tarbais beans. There are variations and duck wings can be added to make it more ‘ducky’, but I prefer it a bit less rich. ... few weeks since returning from the boat. Firstly I fell on ice having only just put my skis on, grazing my chin and bruising my shin. I suddenly developed an aversion to ski lifts and have had a couple of close shaves with them. Then last week with the family I really came a cropper for no particular reason as I was enjoying my skiing and doing well.
