... didn't need to see Parma that badly, and chose the closest camp on my ipad, that turned out to be about 25k away up in the hills.
The camp reviews were a bit suss, with a couple of people reporting rude staff etc, but we were welcomed with opened arms, and have so far had a very pleasant stay tonight. Had a good long chat with a french couple, and have also spent some time with a ...

We left about 9 am for a 39 km loop around the Mantova district. First stop was a small town Grazie which is home to a beautiful church with many superb carvings inside. We visited the small museum of the Mincio River that ran past the town. After a nasty gravel section to avoid travelling on busy ...

Today we took the SLOW train to Riomaggiore. The train to our transfer spot, St Stefan had about 6 cars and was the oldest looking train we had ever seen. It stopped at little stations about every 10 mins. You get what you pay for. But again it left right on time. Another new experience. Before the train, we splurged on the hotel breakfast. We had been eating food we bought, in our room but today we knew we would be on the train for lunch. ...

... enthusiasm for museums, we could probably have spent one less day in each of the three cities so far. But the leisurely pace has meant that we have had lots of time to just wander and ponder, my idea of a good vacation. Brian continues to stick his head in every church we pass even if we've been there before. However, it must be said that his sense of direction is remarkable and he usually steers us correctly. Tomorrow we are off to ...
