... to get a square inch to stand let alone lie in the sun. Luckily, Simone and Pierre and the family are away so they have generously said I that can use their pool while they are away. ... the way back we explore the town as it awakes and gets ready for the influx of tourists that will soon arrive on the many Ferries. We decide to book a cruise on the lake in the afternoon that incorporates a tour of the Villa del Balbianello. ... back to the railway station, but we’ve fallen for the place just the same. I think the key is the unassuming way the town just gets on with being, while people like us come and go. The little piazza below our window is the only square in the town so it’s not only the place where people meet, but also a favourite spot for kids to run and do the things kids do.

... and the square and found another villa and garden which was open today without an entry fee so had a look at another amazing garden. The weather during the day remained good, not too cold and quite dull. We sampled the local fare for dinner on the shoreline of the town harbour, and were very impressed, eating risotto, pasta and fruit tart for dessert, a great end to a relaxing day,
