... have only worn our lightweight jackets a couple of times, and have needed our rain macs just once, so we have been incredibly lucky. Chambery has an amazing history, having been the capital of the Savoie region, and it has been part of Italy, Austria and France at one time or another. ... it seemed, was covered with neat and orderly vineyards - a feast for the eye in our daily ramblings around the region. We did have several gray-sky days and occasional rain, so our photos do not show the region at its best, however the vistas we saw were memorable. The alps near Turin were faintly visible at the best locations.
Thursday, October 16th, we began our drive out of Italy, toward the beautiful French alps around Chamonix!

It has been a grape growing area for 100's of years but only in the latter part of the 1900's has this winery produced world class Nebbiolo red wines. Their wine making operation and cellars are extensive and all underground. We tasted 4 Nebbiolo reds from different vintages.
