... Austrian efficiency meant it arrived and left on time. Journey to Innsbruck very scenic with typical landscape of lush green paddocks, cows grazing and the lovely Austrian homes and villages, not to mention the backdrop of mountains. Only had a short wait at Innsbruck for our train to Verona. Again right on time, and the scenery again was impressive. Went through some valleys with high mountains on either side and that had been a real challenge for the engineers putting the ...

We found parking in a large public lot a little ways outside of the center of town, with a clearly designated walking path leading us right to the edge of the lake. Went to the museum that had an excellent display of various aspects of the mining and ...

... lake (Schwarzensee) at 716 m. A small and pretty lake that freezes over in winter. Trail fairly level round the lake and up to an open moor type area, then headed down through an amazing gorge that had rivers entering from all directions. Would be quite spectacular when the snow was melting in spring. Descent was very steep, but only for a short distance, then levelled out. Ended up at another lake (Attersee) at about 470m. This is ...

... Wagner's, dead mask was in the museum too. I liked the royal family picture and the section about his engagement with his cousin Sophie. Prince Otto is 3 years younger than Ludwig II.

The famous and memorable things in the palace was the magic table (that was much bigger than I thought!) and ...
