Regio Salamanca

... and throughly enjoying a lazy afternoon. We spent time in the old cathedral that is near the center of town. The cathedral was gorgeous on the inside and out. It was extremely gothic in architecture and was so large I almost felt overwhelmed. It was built in the 12th century and I believe was about 150m in legnth from front to back (about 1.5 footbal fields!) The ceiling stretched high for what seemed like miles and it made St. Peters Cathedral in New York ...

It is (apparently unseasonably) cool right now. It actually rained, and stormed, today. It was definitely a change from the usually sweltering norm. <br><br>In any case, it has alerted me to the fact that I way underpacked warm clothes. It's warmer here than Wisconsin, but it gets down to 10 in December, and it's 40 and under through November. <br ...

... US. The pictures can just speak for themselves.<br><br>We spent most of the day in Salamanca. It was a lot of fun, but extremely hot and tiring. We have similar trips the next two weekends to Burgos and Valencia.<br><br>Sunday is the last day of the festivals. I'm ready for them to be over. It has been two straight weeks of crowds, loud music and street vendors. It's time for a break. I want to see what the city is like, normally.<br>

Salamanca go in the morning for some siteseeing on salamanca. Hang out in square. See Church. Look for frog. Lunch on the steps. Naps and pool for the afternoon. Sue stays with kids and Ev, Julie and Tom Listen to music on the square drinking beers. 13.50 for 4 beers, coffee, and drink. Not in Switzerland any more.<br><br>           <br>

Don´t even get me started on Rosario and Alfredo´s personal door to their apartment. Today was also the first time Rosario made something that I couldn´t stomach.....some sort of warm, applesauce-esque mixture of vegetables that tasted like sweet potatoes and chickpeas and I don´t even know ...

... soups. Some afternoons when we were out roaming the streets, we would stop in a small pastelería, or pastry store, and buy a couple of pastries. The pastries in Spain are the most delicious I have ever tasted. Another must-eat is the gofre (waffle.) The gofres are like delicious Belgian waffles topped with cinnamon, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce.<br><br>Most of Salamanca's locals get places by foot or by bus. ... huge cathedral with some of the biggest columns in any cathedral that I have ever seen. It is fairly hot here already and it isn´t even june yet!
