... Then up the funicular to the mountain overlooking Como, not happy with view at that height we decide to walk up to the lighthouse. Snow covered following last weeks cold blast we make our way up - a long way - finally arriving at 'the lighthouse'. The view was spectacular, well the view as best it can be here with quite dense haze/smog. We could see the water but sadly the Swiss Alps, whilst could be seen, were blurry. (Switzerland is ...

We arrived in this beautiful city at dusk so we weren't able to get the most out of it. Stayed there only for one hour and we spent that time in Parco Civico capturing the flickering lights of the city surrounded by mountains. The view from the shores of Lake Lugano was fascinating. It's truly a must-visit city and I'd love to go back and see it in broad daylight. ...

... be there next April. Next we head back over to the beautiful Duomo, to get in out of the sun and see if we missed anything on Saturday. I did--the very striking Alter of Our Lady, a serene statue dating from the 15th C. set in a Baroque chapel with columns mimicking those of Bernini in Rome. Again, I am again impressed by the pleasing organization of space, the restrained use of ornament--although what is there is first-class, and ...

      STYLE AND SILK IN COMO

After waking late and a leisurely breakfast on the Terrace we venture into Como located at the bottom of the Lake, a few kilometers from Cernobbio. (Before I go any further, I must say say that I have never seen so many elegant, beautifully dressed people. Although we don't do 'fancy' cruises, I have stayed at more than a few luxury resorts and hotels, but none, for many years, in Italy. These women actually had on what the garment trade and ...
