Forgot to mention the purchase of the train tickets yesterday after lunch. Dad and I stood in line for about 20, then picked up tickets for the 10:30 Eurostar to Florence. From there, we would pick up one of the multitude of trains that passed through Montecatini. The guy told us 10:30, and we figured to be at the train station by 10:15, we'd be …
I wasn't quite sure of what to expect when I fisrt boarded the Boeing 777 from KLM, from Sao Paulo to the funny-named Schimpol, in Amsterdam.
Before anything else, I'll take a couples of libes to talk about the paradox that is life. Some people say that when life gives you lemons you should make a lemonate, right? Or when life gives you …
... on the Colosseum tour, we found out that this is where Julius Ceasar died.
We kept walking and made it to the busy traffic circle in Piazza Venezia. There was no light directing traffic or pedestrians, just a lightly painted white line on the pavement where you were supposed to cross. The only way to cross it was to step into traffic and pray that everyone was paying attention and stopped. I didn't really want to die that night, so I suggested ...
... what you're looking at. It's the sight used so often when depicting Rome on TV or in Movies and seeing it for the first time in-person is so much more astounding. After snapping some pics and gawking for a while out front we decide to head in. We were lucky that the hotel concierge was able to make a reservation for us because the line to buy tickets is wrapped around the arena. Once inside we realize just how amazing it is that this place was built back in blank! The area where ...
... We called back later to get an update. Our original plans were to go to the Roma Sparita restaurant again, since we had reservations. We decided to quickly return to the hostel to check on the students. As we left the subway station, you could see smoke and lots of people standing around. There were police everywhere.
When we arrived, I immediately told the students to pack. There would be a bus outside in an hour to take ...

Top class in every way
just returned from the regina baglioni rome.hotel is absolutely superb, staff are excellent and the place just oozes luxury.my wife and i went to rome for 3 days for the sales, the hotel is located about a 10 minute walk from the main boutiques(gucci, prada etc.)be aware that the walk back involves taclkling the spanish steps, location oterwise is very good.we booked a room for 240 euros per night and believe me for the suite we received it was a bargain,2 tv's,lounge,2 balconies, marble bathroom with double sinks, robes etc. etc.Quality! we will return.
Location, location, location
Just returned from a marvellous long weekend in Rome, staying with my wife and baby son at the above. It was our first trip to Rome and I didn't realise how important the hotel's location was to getting the most out of a trip. The Regina's is spot on and we walked (and pushed) everywhere from here, even across to the Vatican city. Hotel staff very welcoming, room big, clean and comfortable with a good (free) cot and the breakfast was terrific.
I have already recommended the Regina to friends and if you can get a decent rate (we paid less than £150 sterling per night through ebookers), you are off to a good start for your Roman holiday by chosing this hotel.
Can't do better than the Regina.
DO NOT PAY THE PRICE AT THE EXCELSIOR ACROSS THE STREET!!! I've stayed at both, and the Regina is the equal or superior. I was so disappointed at first that I could not obtain a rate at the Excelsior for less than $700/night for September 2004, for five nights. Used this site to review other hotels and found the Regina. The rate was about Euro 235. It was beautifully decorated, (wonderful baths) quiet, clean, welcoming, and fresh. Concierges were excellent, although they do need at least one more on staff at all times. The location was central for us and we walked to many attractions. All restaurant recommendations were excellent. I highly recommend this hotel, and was pleased to find that this chain has many other locations that I will use in the future.
Wonderful in everyway
Our travel agent originally booked us into this hotel and then later I changed it when I found out they had a special package deal including breakfast, upgraded room and VIP treatment for only 20 euros more. I had no idea what VIP treatment meant and I chuckled to myself about the concept at first but I was wrong. The hotel is definitely top notch and personnel very friendly. We booked a classic room for our son at a much cheaper rate but they gave him a deluxe room right next to us. This was in the newly renovated area which was very quiet at night--no street noise. On our last day there, they discovered that one out of 2 basins in my son's bathroom had no hotwater and wanted to change him to a new room. We declined but I cannot say that we have ever had that type of offer before. We did not purchase the package for his room but he had the 25 euro breakfast with us and was not charged for it. The breakfast was wonderful and try ordering hot chocolate instead of coffee--it was the best I have ever tasted! Everyafternoon they left fresh fruit and chocolates and with the turn down service another treat. They left us a surprise gift to take home with us on our last night. Try to get one of their package deals and you won't be disappointed.
We just back from Italy and stayed at this hotel. We had a wonderful experience. The hotel was beautiful the location was great and the staff was very friendly. We asked for a room with a better view, and they did with no extra charge, the room was a little larger also. Would stay there again.
Loved this hotel
Luxurious and centrally located on the Via Veneto near the top of the Spanish Steps, this is a beautiful hotel with beautiful furnishings, a kind staff and a terrific breakfast buffet--the best start to a long day of sightseeing. The only drawback was the street noise that continued into the early morning hours, but I doubt there's much that can be done about that. A friend from Rome recommend it, and my husband and I were glad we took her recommendation.
Excellent hotel in Rome, Regina Hotel Baglioni
My husband and I spent 10 days at the Regina Hotel Baglioni and it was fabulous. Our room was large by European standards with a very comfortable bed and high quality linens. The bathroom was wall-to-wall marble, with the same high quality linens and bathroom accessories. Our room was very quiet and we rested well each night after hours of sight-seeing. The hotel is convenient to many attractions and a large park is nearby for walks. Breakfast each morning was my husband's favorite part of the hotel with fresh baked pastries, meats, cheeses, fruit and of course wonderful coffee (cafe as the Italian's say). The staff was pleasant and helpful with arranging tours and answering questions. Lastly, the bartender Gabrielle is very entertaining. We would definitely stay here again.
My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon in June 2000. We travelled to Paris, Lourdes and Rome. Because this was our honeymoon, we planned for luxurious accommodations. And that is exactly what we got!The lobby, dining room and accommodations are gorgeous, the pictures on the internet do not do this hotel justice. The service was impeccable from every staff member. This hotel is very well kept. This, by far was the best hotel we stayed in on our trip. The continental breakfast consisted of oven fresh rolls, perfect coffee. The hotel is located right across the street from the American Embassy in a very upscale area. Close to fabulous restaurants and shops, but also close to many of Rome's major tourist attractions. My husband and I did quite alot of walking in this neighbohrhood and felt quite safe. From the minute we stepped into the lobby, I knew this hotel was worth the money we spent.
