... the castle, where I stop for coffee. It's very steep and my legs are feeling it. I carry on and eventually come out at tiny little lakeside town. It's a beautiful (though a bit difficult) walk with magnificent views of the lake from up high. More photos. Back down lakeside, I head back towards Varenna. ... platform and it's really quite difficult to get cases up and down. Don't know how the oldies get on. Now there are mountains on the horizon with snow on the top. Beautiful! As we get closer to Milano it has become very flat. There seems to be less horticulture/orchards/vineyards and more green paddocks/crops. Maybe they grow wheat up here? They surely need a lot for all the pasta they eat. Got into Milan on time then found my train to go on to ...
... cafe to settle in for a nice pasta lunch. This was followed by a wander around Varenna, up into the town square and the church. And then to a tiny little beach. Back to the ferry and then back to Bellagio for a lovely dinner made up of sensational pork sausages, meats, olive and cheese from the little deli at the end of our lane way.
Our final day in Bellagio was a chance to really potter around a bit like the locals. A slow start ...
... spectacular and we have been blown away with the vast mountain ranges with snow covering them, it was surreal.Sophie fell asleep at the perfect time as the road was starting to become a little winding.
We crossed the border from Austria into Switzerland and soon arrived at St Moritz. Once again the scenery was amazing with snow capped mountains, people skiing along walking tracks, husky's at training school and a lake that was covered over. We stopped for a break and a ...
... to sleep. I also had a little bit of a sore face and neck from mild sunburn - the day had been warmer than I realised and I had forgotten to put sun cream on this morning, although I did wear a hat!!
I shall be glad to get away from these particularly dreadful roads, but otherwise have really enjoyed the B&B and also have adored being on Lake Como - a place that had long been on my bucket list. I shall never forget the beauty of this special place.
