We realised we had spent 11 hours here. Not bad for a Monday. After a day chilling out we went to Old Town San Diego today. We got the metro there and had a walk around the village. ... his own name wasn’t quite as exciting to him as it was to me, he was kind enough to show me his driving licence as proof of this unbelievable revelation. Here it gets better…his full name is ‘Strider Aragorn Dennis’ – I **** you not. I was dying to say all kinds of super nerdy things like “you look good for an 87 year old man” and “Arwen…you hitting that?” but I fear this would have ...

... weather in midwinter is reason enough to come here. The flight out on Southwest gave me a glimpse of Washington in the soft evening light -- we live in a lovely spot. This evening as I settled down to barbecued chicken and a Crush in a Staples strip mall, I picked up the community newspaper and was riveted by the cover story -- a long excerpt from one of Primo Levi's pieces on survival in Auschwitz. ...
