... hand at an ariel assault course....he came back a shell of his former self after 3 hours in the trees hanging from bits of wire and trying to keep up with 9 year old girls who were more agile than him..for my penance I had to play pitch and putt with Lauren using carved putters and wooden balls..no danger i'll be joining a golf tour anytime soon.

Definitely worth a visit in winter for you keen boarders out there.

... bikes to use, so I rode around the towna nd to surrounding villages for about three hours. It was great. Very relaxing too. There were a lot of bikers out, all Lance Armstongs in the making I think. They all looked very hardcore with their expensive race bikes and tight shorts. Zell Am See is a ski town. It is completely surrounded by lifts etc, but it's in ...

Where Eagles Dare - Eisriesenwelt

Natalie had noticed in the Lonely Planet that the worlds largest ice caves 'Eisriesenwelt' near the village of Werfen. As it was on our way to Salzburg we thought why not tick another 'Worlds biggest/largest/first' off the list (Chevy Chase eat your heart out!)

Well what an experience... the day starts with a 15 min minibus ride up the mountain to a stopping point 200m from the ticket office. The walk to the ticket office takes another 10 minutes as it is fairly ...

Snowboard Report: Day 3

... yesterday have become a white ball of healing light. I fully expect to achieve enlightenment tomorrow when I lay eyes on the St Marco Square in Venice. Don't worry, I'll tell you all about it. I have also managed to work out the kinks in moving in a straight line. Which means the narrow sections no longer vex me so. Furthermore, the trees no longer scare the bejebus out of me. I've also discovered that the ungroomed ...

Snowboard Report: Day 2

And now for a brief recap of my second day trying this madcap sport involving strapping a board to your feet and pointing yourself down a steep, snow-covered hill. Times fallen: Less than the number of my fingers and toes that are not frostbitten (that's 20) Times gotten back up: Everytime Times cartwheeled: Twice Body parts that hurt: I'm currently having some ...

Snowboard Report: Day 1

Status update for my first day of snowboarding: Times fallen over: Infinity Times gotten back up: Infinity plus one Time spent having fun: 99.9999999% of the time Body parts that hurt: - Both big toes - Both knees - Left butt cheek - Lower left abdominals - Left wrist My smecksy pants work a treat.... At least until I crash and I end up with snow in your underwear... There's a good chance I'm going to get hooked on this sport. There is quite possibly nothing cooler than the ...

Beer, Gluhvein and Mist

... either. Until of course I was about to leave, when a 6 year old went down in front of me, and took me out in the process... I was not amused. Later Monday evening, I walked out away from the centre of town to the Englischer gardens. This was a kind of spooky fun, the park is almost entirely unlit, and a mist had fallen across the gardens.. It was very Alice in Wonderland-esque, and I was completely alone, but for the occasional jogger or cyclist. People ...

GrossGlockner Strasse - Austria

... seeing a 70plus year old lady going up on a european town bike with basket on the front and back!!! She was almost at the snow line when we pasted her!! So 30 minutes waiting for the brakes to cool was spent watching the antics of brake and new unreleased car testers going backwards and forwards some even carrying double axle trailers at full speed. An amazing experience for us both and well worth the long drive to get back there.

Grossglockner Pass, Austria

... floor under the bed, but what a laugh. We cooked a curry and cracked a couple of bottles of red. Definitely broke our record for maximum number of people in the van, sorry Tammy!!!

Next morning, we headed off to the pass. The pass was built in the 1950s as not only a picturesque pass which tourists could pay to cross, but to use labour to boost the economy. It is one of the most twisty, turny, most stunning roads in the world. Blanketed in snow ...
