Historical Traveler Reviews of Regent Singapore Hotel
Great Family Hotel
from krisBrighton_England
Singapore is not an easy destination to find family friendly hotel rooms. We stayed 3 nights on the way down the Oz and 2 nights on the way back. Discounts were genuine with no gimmicks. The Regent accomadated my family of 4 in a twin room with no problems. Extra bed was complimentary and staff excellent. Rooms are well furnished and very spacious. We were very impressed with the Capers restaurant. One waiter remembered my son's apple juice after two weeks.
The swimming pool area was in need of some cheering up, ie the awning rather worn which was completely out of charecter, however once again service of pool staff excellent.
We will stay there again!

wonderful hotel, very close to the orchide road. our room was fantastic with really nice furniture, great decor and rather large. bathroom is little dated, with bath tube and shower combined, however bathroom details and amenities were great. brkf was very good. overall - a very nice hotel however it cannot match the taste and splendor of Mandarin Oriental. In comparison to the Mandarin it is a nice avarage hotel
Just fabulous !

We stayed at the Regent in February 2005, on our way back from Australia to the UK and it was just the best hotel I've ever stayed at. I would make one inportant observation - I see the Regent as a very grown-up sophisticated hotel. It's probably aimed more at experienced business travellers, rather than the tourist market. But for us, that just made it an even more desirable place to stay. For example, the restaurants within the hotel aim at excellence and don't try to make what they do more "accessible" by watering down recipes or pandering to tourist tastes. So their Chinese restaurant menu doesn't feature the sort of things you'd find in a "high street" Chinese restaurant in the UK. It goes into a different territory, with brilliantly executed, seriously authentic Chinese dishes. Likewise, the Japanese restaurant takes what it does very seriously, and the modern European restaurant is very much in the Gordon Ramsay mould. The breakfasts were also great, with a very large buffet arrangement, with different "zones" for European, American, Japanese and Asian favourites, so you could make up your own selection, and mix & match just how you wanted it.
We had a suite which surpassed all our expectations - a huge sitting area with a 2nd loo and washroom off it (presumably so that if you had visitors or a business meeting, your guests wouldn't have to go through your bedroom to use the facilities); an equally large bedroom, with a really comfortable bed and a great bathroom and walk-in wardrobe/dressing area. All beautifully and expensively furnished and maintained in the highest condition. The hotel itself does look slightly 1980s, but I'm talking style not condition; nowhere will you find even a hint of deterioration. The staff are just great, hardworking and positive. I can't wait to go back.
Beauty and Relaxation

I actually stayed here for 3 months. The staff are fantanstic and very helpful, room service was exquisite. They have a bar on the first floor of the hotel which was very nice. The rooms has beautiful relaxing mood, glass evevators. You will feela sense of openess, the architechture design of the hotel is very open and airy. I highly suggest this location. It is also walking distance to Orchard Road (Singapores main road) where they have all the dining, shopping area.
Their rooms has nice interiors, they offer neutrogena products (at the time I stayd there in 2001). I enjoyed their buffet.
This hotel will only impress you, take it from someone who stayed there long enough to know.
It's true - excellent service

The earlier reviews are accurate -- the hotel itself is not the most impressive, but the service is. From doorman to front desk to the cleaner sweeping the leaves at the pool, the service staff were courteous and attentive in the best possible way. The little touches (such as cookies and milk waiting for my children in the room, and complimentary fruit skewers served by the pool) spoke volumes of the priority given to making the guests feel pampered. The building betrays its age in some parts (eg smallish pool, lack of direct elevator access from the car park to the lobby, overall hotel design) but the rooms themselves were lovely, spotless, well kept, good bedlinen, luxurious toiletries, nothing more to ask for. While there are certainly newer and better located hotels than this, I would go back and stay at the Regent again.
JUST THE BEST

My wife and I visited the Regent Hotel in January 2005, as the last leg of our round the world trip. This is just the best hotel we stayed at. The staff are just the most efficient and courteous people we met on our travels, nothing was too much trouble. Great location, great ambience, fantastic staff. Knocks the Fullerton for six.

Stayed there two nights on the club level,a four seasons hotel, how you expect it,very nice room, with good views over the city,on the top floors, just walking distance to orchard road with all its shops, the pool area is a little bit outdated, the chinese restaurant was not up to our expectations,it was very well rated in lonely planet,a terrific doorman, with a tremendous name register in his head.
Excellent hotel standards

The hotel itself is just a bit off the beaten tracks about 15 min walk to a metro station,5 min walk to the famous Orchard Street shopping and quite away from the downtown tourism spots however.... this is one of the best serviced and staffed hotels I've ever been in and heads above the other "4-5 stars" Ive stayed in downtown Singpore. Its a beautiful hotel, extremely helpful and plentiful staff, very spacious and clean room, private pool and excellent jaccuzi, steam room, fitness center. Probably the best housekeeping service I've ever experienced as well. If you are in town to shop Orchard Street - and like a hotel with good service and clean - this is an excellent choice for you... and unlike many of the downtown locations.... its very quiet and not underconstruction!
Service, courtesy, quality and professionalism

It might not be the newest and most modern building in town but you quickly forget it as soon as you walk in and are greeted by outstanding staff, perfect cleanliness (common areas, restaurants as well as rooms) and that classy atmosphere one encounters in every Four Seasons Group hotel.
I can't have enough praise for the professional and courteous attitude of every staff member I have encountered. From the Executive Club Room, to the excellent Japanese restaurant, from the piano bar to housekeeping, everyone was consistently helpful, courteous, efficient and smiling yet never overbearing as some incompetent staff which tries too hard someetimes is.
This hotel is obviously run by someone who has a keen eye for detail as well as a talent for recruiting, training and motivating quality staff.
One wonders why it was so empty during the 5 days I spent there.

I needed a cake from the pastry shop urgently but it would not open until an hour later. I happened to speak to the Banquet Captain (George) and a waitress (Angeline) at the tea room. They immediately took the trouble to assist me with procuring what I needed from the pastry kitchen.
Absolutely responsive and undivided attention (very rare in Singapore). Probably the best hotel in Singapore with a wonderful afternoon tea served in its tea room.
