The Rat Temple and Road Kill

Another desert train took us blissfully to Bikner. We only came here for one reason..the rat temple. I am sure you have heard of the temple where Hindus worship because they believe storytellers are reincarnated as rats.

So we had to go..... but first, Ben and I had to crash another wedding. Actually it was a procession to the brides house that takes place the night before the wedding. It is like a bachelor ...

... a worship ceremony for the elephant god Ganesh, before heading back to the guesthouse for more home cooking and fun with the family! Off to the Blue City tomorrow. Travel Advice: Staying with Prakash and his family was quite a unique experience. Give it a try...we heard he also runs a very solid desert safari. Nous marchons un peu mais tres vite le rythme s acccelere et on rejoint la première charrette au dessus des couvertures ...

India Part 10: Bikaner

Hi Everyone Welcome to our India Trip part 10: Bikaner. Bikaner is one of the 3 great desert kingdoms of Rajasthan as well as Jodhpur and Jaisalmer with all 3 succeeding because of their location for passing trade. It's another old walled town with yet more ABF's, ABP's and ABRH **(see footnote for explanation!). After a 6 hour drive with Arif, this was the last journey we were to have with him. We had all got to know one another over the last 10 days, sharing magic ...

boring Bikaner

... things: - internet still very bad but I have been told it is like that in all India - my phone does not work but should be fixed soon - record of rickshaws telling me "rickshaw sir, rickshaw, whereare you goin'? rickshaw. where are you from, sir? rickshaw....": 5 differents in 4 minutes exactly, after leaving the hotel. As if I could not see them and ask them if I needed one.

Feelin' Hot, Hot ,Hot!!!!

... served in teapots and cups for disguise. Hot and sweaty, caked in sand, bum literally rubbed raw from the camel saddle, it was the finest cup of tea to ever grace my lips!

So today I've been taking it easy (and trying to avoid sitting for any length of time, for obvious reasons...), getting pleasantly lost in the labyrinthine narrow streets of the Old City with it's gorgeous carved stone havelis ...

Jaisalmer - Camel trekking

... and was an ex racing camel, so he got thrown about in his seat quite a lot to begin with - especially when we started trotting through the desert. We stopped at some great sights - including a Jain temple, a deserted town and some awe inspiring sand dunes. The best things about the trip was just chilling out and escaping India mayhem. Sleeping under the stars with just blankets to keep us warm was a great experience even if we were ...

Temples, Pickpockets, and Tapestries

... it is generally somebody unassuming. In this case the pickpocket was a boy ~7 years old. I had felt a hand in my pocket and I immediately pushed it away. The kid looked at me and began to deny that it was him. Yet I knew it was him because I did not say anything nor did I indicate anything other than look at him. Kid looked around and I caught him looking at what seemed like his older relative. Both of them ran off into the crowd. Yup ...
