Detour

Dave blew it!!

I knew we needed to get on 98 but took the first turn instead of going to Pensacola first. So we went at 50 miles out of our way around the Gulf Coast, totally lost but finished up where we wanted to be in the end, except it was going to be Destin but became Fort Walton which is OK. Did about 240 miles instead of 200 but here is lovely, right on the water and tonight as promised we had a "proper" meal. Fish Bisque whatever that is? Sort of soup, then fresh fish meals wh...

White sands and Margaritas

Well, Liz, Cathy and TJ had the margaritas. I stuck with Sprite for this one. TJ caught a few waves at the beach even though there was hardly anything to catch. Then we went back to Liz's where Cathy took control as chef. She and Liz made this awesome bruschetta ...

The Wedding Ring Search Party

... were flying over the nice clear water.  We pretended that they were helping us find the ring.  They weren't.

Did I mention how nice and clear the water was.

Eventually we decided to come back to the condo and make adult smoothies....

Mmmm.... adult smoothies....

The wedding is soon, we will be barefoot on the beach, not sober, and looking good.

Go us!

And GO Bridget and Drew!!!!

I consider them friends
The stars
I learn from them
They are many things
Great listeners
Supporters
Believers
Lovers

They have no secrets
No funny stories
No sad stories
And no answers

They just light my path
Insisting that I have somewhere to go

So tonight

Paradise of a Home

Well, this is where we called home until the economy crashed and took my business with it. But that gave us an opportunity and impetus to seek broader learning in Saigon. Of all the places we've lived this is at the top. On the bay, with a yard, dog....the American dream. Quiet town living, safety, low cost of living, only the occasional hurricane. It is a good place. We miss our friends and will return.

The Second Leg of the "Farewell Tour"

... to stay and hang out with her family and relatives for a week.

Lauren had left her bank job a few weeks earlier to prepare for the move to Bangkok and of course, I was out of school, so we really had freedom as to when and how we could get there. So, since Lauren and I are masochists, we decided to drive instead of fly. It was about an 11 hour drive and we got the delight of driving thru what AC/DC named their "Highway to Hell" song after- Interstate ...

Destin-ation Destin!

... Big Kahuna, which is a giant water park. I did almost all the rides, and my grandfather, who is 74, did too! He was very brave and crazy. We did Thunder River and Lazy River, the wave pool, tons of Giant Slides, and had a super fun time. On our last day, my grandfather took us deep sea fishing. Our captain, Ed and the first mate, Joe, where nice but very strict. We went 8 miles out to sea and fished for red snapper. I caught the first fish and the biggest fish, and got to ...

Florida Road Trip

Our first stop was Niceville up in the panhandle. (Actually, our first stop was Sonny's BBQ in Ocala for a BBQ pork platter and a bowl of fried okra - yum!) Just to answer the question before it is asked - No, not everyone is nice in Niceville. But it is pleasant enough and a short drive across the bridge from Destin which has some of the best beaches ...

States Visited: 10 (CA, NV, AZ, NM, CO, TX, LA, MS, AL, FL) Total Miles Traveled: 3,591 + 1,215 = 4,806 Sites Visited: Lots of state border signs Next Stop: Not sure New News: We didn't get the tour job To interview and meet other requirements for a potential job, we rushed east towards Kris' mother's home. We cleared five states in a matter of two days (our reason for all the blurry state border signs in the photos). Unfortunately, once we arrived ...

Our Final Day

After breakfast of french toast, we did some packing to prepare for our road trip home which begins tomorrow, and caught up on our blog. We wanted to get some pics at Pompano Joes, Bass Pro, and Hard Rock. We also took a few more ocean pics. We ate a great meal at Pompano Joe's. Louise had island wings, Thelma had Mahi Mahi and black ...
