... brought back a knapsack filled with peppers as they travel well and are really expensive in Inuvik), a rolling carry-on suitcase, a purple sack containing who knows what, and a purse bursting at its seams. I waited at the carousel and was the last one standing. My bags were not there. Great! I made my way to the baggage claim area and waited for them to finish with the three people in front of me. I told my tale and ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada cindyloohoo... and then other people are going to eat me! Holy god, let's get out of here! I glance over and notice a JAR OF RELISH on the kitchen table. All the literary elements for a cheap and dirty horror novel are RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE. I'm recognizing all of them, but WHY am I ignoring them? Because I have some strange notion that people are inherently good? Oh yeah, I have to continually remind myself of that, each time I suspect someone is trying to turn me into an unwitting cannibal ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada starlagurl... so far north to get so hot, weird. After that, we wandered around various artist workshops, met a whale bone carver and I pondered buying a Northern Lights painting, but went back to next day to actually get it. Later, we wanted some beers, but after searching high and low, could only find some at the Jade Garden, a Chinese food/pizza parlour, with a very nice manager. It was absolutely stifling in there and I probably drank my weight in beer ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada starlagurl... decided to stop driving after roughly 6.5 hours of driving which landed us in Manning Alberta. It's a lovly lil town with 2 bars both owned by the same owner, One mostly for the younger crowed and the other for all ages and even had a live band. We decided to go out and party with someone from the camp site, and managed to have a pretty good night, we met some of the locals such as "slay dog" and his friends, Although ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada senorbrian... our groceries and videos and proceeded to pull the matress out of the bedroom onto the living room floor and fully enjoy the surround sound system watching movies. This is the ONLY time Tristan is allowed on the bed cause we cover it with a sheet due to her never ending shedding syndrome. Ahhhhh, home sweet home. Neither one of us wanted to venture too far outside cause it was a bloody freezer. Need at least a few days to climatize. Whew!!!
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada justjan... on my birthday and continuing on to 17 countries, finishing up in Australia and New Zealand. I met marvellous people, both locals and other tourists (you know who you are!) I arrived back in Canada in mid August - and to Yellowknife, where I work for the Government of the Northwest ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada lecklund... and passed through the Ogilvie Mountains. The more I drove, the more I became aware of the rising temperature of my face. This warmth was generated by the adrenelin boost which this exciting drive injected into my circulatory system. My face seemed aglow, and I kept telling myself - relax, relax, and relax. For the most part, there was little traffic coming from the opposite direction and there was certainly no one passing me despite the fact that I was ...
Fort McPherson, Northwest Territories, Canada lobo... lost in the forest which he brushed off with comments about the sun, the moon and the stars and a few roads running north and south as reference points. No, he had never gotten lost in the woods. He described his attachment to his dog team and the role of the alpha male lead dog whose role is occasionally challenged by some of the younger dogs in the team. Doug's forearms bore evidence of attempts to separate such encounters among the ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada loboHey Everyone! After over a year of researching, planning, waiting and more waiting, Mary and I are almost ready to leave for South Africa where we will be volunteering in a primary school 30 mins. north of Capetown. I set up this dorky blog so that anyone who's interested can follow our adventures and keep tabs on us. I hope it helps to keep you all entertained as I know how boring life can be without me around! Enjoy, Smelly
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada melodydawn... was idyllic. The water lapped at the shore and the sand was pink. We ate a marvellous campfire kebabs and enjoyed some spirits while the sun set and the moon rose. The sky wasn't perfectly clear, but it cleared enough to show off some amazing northern lights for us. We felt pretty lucky to be on this northern beach with an airplane on shore instead of a canoe, and with lots of friendly company with whom to enjoy the experience. Sunday morning was amazing as well, and ...
