... cover to fend off the worst of the down pour but it was still wet. We went through several bridges and locks and we endured the swinging clog toll collection procedure today. There was a magnificent (if you like big boxes) floating house in the middle of a lake. Very "Grand design" but we didn't really like it. At one of the locks today there were hundreds of gnomes!

Like we did with Ghent in Belgium, we're making Utrecht our base in Holland and using the trains to explore the other cities. The trains between Utrecht and Amsterdam; Rotterdam and The Hague, all take approximately 30 minutes and there are 4 an hour.
Utrecht is a stunning city, I think it is my favourite European city so far! Having said that, almost every city we stay in we say 'I could live here!'
