Stuck in Sarawak a While

... enjoyment of said space for the duration of my flight but that is not possible. The three and half hour flight from Colombo to Kuala Lumpur was like hurtling through the air on a chicken bus in Guatemala.

I loved this one Malaysian girl who got up to use the restroom and couldn't find her chair after she finished. She would run high speed up the aisle, stop, squint through thick glasses that magnified her eyes 15 times. She would ...

Going wild in Borneo

... stands at just under 6%.

At this stage we realised that Beth was not feeling 100% so we moved to a hotel in Sandakan. This was a place of rest and relaxation, where were able to get antibiotics for Beth to bring her back to full health. Mark managed to borrow a DVD player from the hotel reception and buy the missing leads from a local electronics store, meaning Beth had some movies to aid her recovery!

We went to Turtle Island on the ...

... is for sale. Chelsey made her first purchase...a pair of $3 sunglasses.

First food experiences...not so good. Chewy meat, aweful "Thai sauce", all around terrible. But only cost $4 Canadian for two sprite and two meals. We left hoping that wasn't the norm...and thankfully it was not. The food only improved from there and we soon found out what we loved...fried noodles! Later that night Chelsey experienced her ...

Although he didn't speak hardly any english we could tell from the way he looked at us he thought we were massive *****, although he perked up 8 seconds later when we paid him about 10 times the fare for being our hero.

And just for the record, he understood enough to confirm that yes there were crocodiles in the river.

Miri

It's no surprise really that we were quick to leave the next morning, possibly slightly more ...

Don't feed the crabs!

... phobic. Now those of you who know me well know that I am not a very good swimmer and I'm not very confident in the ocean at all. I psyched myself up, placed the mask over my face and the snorkel in my mouth, breathing heavily through it. In fact I reckon I could have been a heavy breathing double for a porn movie I was breathing that hard and fast. I placed my face under the water and tried to concentrate on how lovely it was down there but all I could think about ...

Satang Island

Today we woke up reasonably early to be collected for our tour to Satang Island. We took a 40 minute drive to a river bank where we boarded a boat, swerved between fishermen to see endemic dolphins eating the small fish that the fishermen did not want, and therefore threw back into the river.

After these sightings, we up-ed tempo to wind through mangrove forest in search of elusive crocodiles, but with no luck. After a brief trip across the ...

Hot and sticky in Kuching

... on the flights, but in Kuching they did seem a little superfluous and incongruous.
20 minutes down the road and we were dropped at the Kuching Hilton - typical 5-star luxury, but so welcome after our journey. The view from our room was stunning, even at night, but in daylight the view of the river and the new parliament buidling was even better.

Lots of strange creatures

... We were very hot without the shade of the jungle so we continued on to the coast. We reached the cliff and saw the famous stack, and sat for a bit to recover from the heat before returning to the park HQ. After dinner we decided to go on a night walk. At first we saw only fireflies and some hermit crabs, but as we ventured further into the jungle we saw lots of sleeping birds, some crazy-looking stick insects, a huge spider, a ...

... leaving on Saturday night. We settled for some ceramic shot glasses instead that we found for 4.50 RM/each. We also found a cool Borneo mask to add to our collection at home for 50 RM. We left for the airport earlier than we needed to on the day of March 28th, 2009 because we did not have a room and were dying from the heat and humidity. This day seemed hotter than any other day of our trip so far and the humidex temperature must've surpassed 40 degrees by ...

... y fotografiarlos a gusto. ¡Impresionante!
