... 2k with my thumb out, finally got a ride. The tour, a bargain at 1k, was not until 3.30pm so hung around in the sunny yard soaking up the scenery and artefacts - didn't take long to soak up the 2 tiny shots that were included in the tour though was good and very reasonably priced but no space to lug around a bottle of the hard stuff as would need mixers too!

Any trip like this though is going to throw up a few irritations and unfortunately some people on our Mamalluca tour didn't disappoint. ... we followed a narrow river valley, mountains on either side of us with vineyards in between. The campgrounds in Rio Magico we are in is the same setting, the mountains are brown and between is like the tropics with green viney trees. We will be staying here two nights then going to the observatories for a few nights, I'm sure after seeing the brilliant stars we seen last night we won't be disappointed. We will be back in Santiago on Saturday and will update ...

... the roof tent combine to make us feel a little top-heavy and this becomes something of a white-knuckle ride for me as the vehicle bounces from side to side over rocks and potholes. Meanwhile, Liam calmly rounds the hairpin bends, and, when the road straightens for a moment or two, he lifts his gaze to enjoy the view. And what a view it is! Under a cloudless blue sky, the desert mountain landscape gives way, at high elevation, to snow covered peaks and rows of icy seracs march ...
