The last night in Lyon we spent with the mother/ Pia, of a French girl, Chloe, who stayed with us recently. We dined in a tiny traditional bouchon that she had sought out. Her son and girlfriend joined in the fun - especially called on for their good English; Mireille was in her element conversing with the mother in French. The meal of many dishes was sensational and we were humbled by Pia insisting on paying for us all. We left there in heavy rain which made a comical ...

... again a brilliant free village Aire with what we are now finding happen to always have the best facilities. 'Custom' as it says in the book! I reckon the local that builds the waste and water facilities that actually work are also Motorhome owners. They know what's required. The relentless thunderstorms force us to drive at dawn. We have had patches of lovely warm sunshine, but most of the time there has been a wind. It comes off the lake and has a cutting edge to it. Our next planned stop was an aire at La Breole. It was a building site. The commune were putting up a building and had fenced off part of the aire for access ...

... at how soft the snow was- just like Fairy floss. We drove on towards Grenoble and then Gap where we were staying the night. We drove through the most amazing picturesque scenery. Towering mountains and old fortresses either side as we moved along the valleys. Just stunning.

The hotel we stayed in was in a good location with the host being very friendly, he reminded us of Gabriel Gate. Gap was a gorgeous little town easily explored by foot from just outside the hotel.

... there were a few tunnels along the route but we didn't realise that they were pitch black and although we came prepared with a torch it was of no use at all. You couldn't see a hand in front of your face, it was very disorientating and just to add to the 'fun' water dripped from the roof of the tunnel onto your head and down your neck! It was like being on the worst theme park ride, where you had no idea what was going to happen next! It was a mild relief to exit the ...
