When Mark returned I announced that no one over 40 was allowed, which my host took with good humour, requesting only that I tell him everything that was said. Left to talk freely the 13 students relaxed and seemed to enjoy themselves.

They were a tight group, bright, inquisitive people. They talked about the challenges of living in Ooty, of the “Hebron bubble ...

There was much to do, and evidence of landslides and previous walls collapsed, and still the road climbed. “I can’t believe we’re still going up,” said ...
Ooty, Tamil Nādu, India darkstar... replaced by absolute terror of paper thin walls, damp floors and walls and sub zero temperatures. Alas, being the ever polite English people we are, we felt that after we'd accepted the room we could no longer change our mind.

We left our bags and made our way down the hill to the centre of town. Ooty town bears an air of desperation and hopelessness. I hope I'm not being too harsh with my choice of words but it really felt ...

It was already feeling cooler outside at this elevation and I knew that it would be even colder at the top.

While we were waiting for the train to depart, the conductor came over and started talking to my mom and me. He could not really speak English too well but told us about some movies that were filmed from the toy train. At each stop for the rest of the ride, he came over to our window to tell ...

In the news today - India has run out of oil and one of the CEOs of a major company (Satayam) has admitted fraud over a 7/8 year period. Oil production and delivery workers have been on strike for the past few days and now India is in crisis. We saw on the news this morning that major cities like Delhi, Bombay, Bangalore, Madras etc are suffering most with up ...
Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, India 50odd... is one of those places that you need permission to go into, or, go in as part of a tour group. We were going to investigate the latter option this evening but there was a power cut so while we were walking round town we couldn't see a damn thing. We don't really want to stay here 2 nights so we're going to cycle onto Sulthan's Bathery and Gudalur and look for accommodation there. Logging is big in the areas and they grow a ...

May 28th, 2008 Botanical Garden is one of the popular palces in Ooty and I didn't want to miss it. Knowing that it would be crowded by 10AM, went to Garden by 8:15 AM itself. It had rained slightly the previous night. This allowed me to take some interesting photographs. Left ...
Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, India pkrm... collects water and washes the dishes... Nice! Right next to our lodge were two families of monkeys that entertained us our entire stay. All the seem to do is play fight and eat! That evening we sat out outside watching the river and in the space of a couple of hours it was visited by a group of spotted dear, wild boar, peacocks, a snake and a king fisher. Needless to say we had an excellent time at the park and are looking forward to some more in the north of India.
