Reef (Ocean) Tumon

Weekend of October 24th/25th<br><br>This weekend couldn't have been a nicer weekend for wet season Guam.... After a long and crazy week the weather was perfect and the waves were almost glass making an awesome couple of days of diving. With only a few more weekends before I head home I don't have too much time left to see everything on my list for Guam. So I signed up for 4 boat dives.. two of which were free and the other two cost only 35 dollars ...

... Double Reef Beach. The coves were really awesome and involved a little extra climbing to get down there but were totally worth the extra effort. There was no trash down there and it was just one of those spots that you know people haven't been in a long time and was just "pure".  Two coves later I got down to Double Reef Beach and was just frozen in time for a minute. It was a small bay shaped open beach with perfect shade from Binalo trees and really shallow but nice ...

... in. There was a group of piliots that we support that went on the boat with us along with several dive tourists and a specialty wreck diving course. The trip out to the dive site was only about a 15 minute ride and took us through Apra harbor. <br>The plan that Joe and I put together was to dive down and do our deepest dive first.. descending down to about 100 feet where the two ships almost touch. The visibility was pretty rough going ...

... long and considered to be the most difficult of the hikes on the island. To our surprise when we arrived there were lots of trails branching off each other and virtually clearly defined path. There happened to be a group of Coast Guard guys out 4 wheeling the trails and testing out their new jeep so they gave us somewhat of a direction to head in and we were on our way. This is the muddiest place Ive ever been by the way, the dirt is dark red and ...

So for some reason I still have not figured out to this day, on a saturday night, in the middle of a tropical storm... We decided caving would be an awesome idea. Talk about some blair witch project! Stocked up on underwater flashlights, snorkel gear and toilet paper and headed out to Marbo. The caves have underwater lakes that get so deep at points ...

... e yhtään mitään, mutta lupaavasti aallot kohisee jossain lähellä! :-) Nyt tuli kuitenkin heti ongelmia! Koska ollaan matkustettu viime viikot Japanissa, niin hiukan liian huolettomaksi on tullu meininki ja ei älytty varautua asianmukaisella vakavuudella tähän myöhäiseen saapumiseen. Ensimmäinen ongelma oli, että Japanissa oli aina uudet hammasharjat joka päivä huoneessa, mutta nytpä ei enää ollutkaan. Seuraava ongelma oli, että Japanissa sai aina lyhyellä kävelyllä automaatista ...

Add that to the Mall of Micronesia with it's kiddie train ride going though the middle of the mall and the stores selling airbrushed t-shirts, and it really felt like 1985. We did make a trip to the US Post Office there, and I must say that the postal workers in Guam seem a bit happier than their bitter counterparts in New Jersey!

Our new friends suggested a night out and a dinner show. We met Margaret, Naomi, Theresa, Cheryl & George at the Fish Eye Marine Park and Polynesian Style Dinner Show. The Marine Park has an underwater observatory, so we were able to see divers feeding fish. The Dinner Show includes a seafood buffet-it was one of the best meals we've had so far. The buffet selection included sashimi & sushi, noodles & rice, crab ...

... which was a 3 minute drive or 12 minute walk (as I discovered on the way back to Hilton). It was a long night, needless to say. Reviewing that phrase, why should I or anyone else ever write or say "needless to say?" If it's needless to say, isn't that, too, in fact needless to say? Isn't this? Sorry, I have an English major and took a philosophy class- what could be more annoying? :) Oops, on 28 Nov (Fri), I woke up late and missed my MWR tour of the waterfalls of Guam ...
