On Boxing Day we ventured info Brandon - about 45 minutes away - to stay with Kendra's sister Michelle for a few nights as Mary and Wayne left for a winter escape to Texas. Very common over here - people move down to the States for most of the winter as it's too cold. Sooks. Ha ha. Brandon is a city pretty much - reminds me of Bendigo or Ballarat in size. So I guess this is it! A week from today I will be embarking on the trip of a lifetime with my best friend. ... a difficult/miserable couple of months. Not only did mom pass away, but we almost lost our dog, Lola, due to a severe tick disease. She is still recovering. When it rains, it pours....
We are just now considering returning to our travels,only time will tell.

... and then 3 additional questions about firearms. Clearly, Canada border agents have correctly realized that we're a nation of gun fanatics. I think the border agent was confused when I was one of the few Americans who did not answer any of the queries in the affirmative. ... the farming is the same as the day before. The petroleum wells are gone now though. There are still lots of trucks on the road but they carry potash. There are a few huge potash mines in Eastern Alberta run by the Australian BHP-Billiton company. One can see the factories on the horizon as one zooms along. I don't think they affect the local communities at all, except for the trucking traffic, and employment at the mines.
