We arrived in Gatlinburg last night after fighting an immense, intense amount of traffic through Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. Let it be known: I do not find these two towns to be enjoyable destinations. They are a strange fusion of stripmall alley in Crystal Lake combined with Wisconsin Dells combined with Universal Studios. Everything in these towns is on the same road, so the traffic is out of control--as too is the case in Gatlinburg, but at least Gatlinburg is cute and doesn't have any s...

... great in the AM the first 1/2 of the ride it's hard to see the views.
2. You'll be tempted to take pictures when you first get off the train during the 1 hour break. Don't. Everyone else has the same idea. Take your break first. Then after 1/2 hour everyone will be taking their break and you can take pictures without crowds of people.
3. If you do take the PM ride at least this time of year the only thing that ...
Bryson City, North Carolina, United States dave-sue-rvLeft Justin's this morning around 8:30 or so and I drove us over to Asheville where Sumner and I picked up Lola, the RV. I'll say it...she's a beaut. We had a slightly rough start with the stupid GPS taking us through residential area's galore, so far from necessary when you're driving a huge RV. We went to Walmart and stocked up some food and had the pleasure of crossing paths with a couple cool people. The corner of the Walmart parking lot looked like an RV park itself. This ...
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee, United States ktowers86... rain on and off all day, and we had packed sandwiches, so we stopped in a picnic area and ate lunch in the car. I took a lot of pictures (are you surprised?!), but we're on the road now, and the signal may not be steady/strong enough to trust to the uploading process, so I will do that later.

We came back to the motorhome and had dinner after our day-long exploration, and decided to take advantage of a buy one/get one free ...
Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee, United States pykesonthegoWe left Crittenden Kentucky this morning at 9 AM, traveling south on I-75 and picking up I-40 in Tennessee. It was pretty much a standard travel day for us, covering about 250 miles total, with a half hour or so lunch stop around Noon time. We stopped at a very busy Tennessee Welcome Center (that's where we made our sandwiches and ate lunch) to pick up brochures so we could make good use of our one day in the Smoky Mountains ...
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, United States pykesonthego... north of the city around 6pm, another Holiday Inn Express. This one looks like it is older but they still have the nice new beds. I lay down for awhile but cannot fall asleep so I watch TV instead. I find a History Channel show about Hannibal. Seemed he won every battle but lost the war. The amount of slaughter is incredible to me. I see that they are advertising a show for later that night about ...
Knoxville, Tennessee, United States psubrat93Hi, everyone,
Just want to say that the Riverstone Lodge in Townsend, Tn. is by far the very best place to stay in The Smoky Mountains. It is the closest Hotel / Lodge to Cades Cove which is just unbeleivable with its mountain views and all the wildlife (deer, black bear, wild turkeys ect...) also well maintained original cabins & churches from the1800's are spread out across the 11 mile journey. Mountains all around you. AHHH. The ...
Townsend, Tennessee, United States smokeymountainsIt has been many years since I've been in Cherokee and little has changed except for the Casino which is undergoing major expansion. We were nestled into a nice RV park with a brook flowing through it. Cherokee is close to many attractions and we enjoyed our stay there.
Cherokee, North Carolina, United States captrickWe found a spot somewhere on the border of North Carolina and Tennessee. It was so beautiful we spent a few days here and did everything.

We did some white water rafting near our site and met a friend. She was a cat the lived there and loved sleeping in the tent. ha ha ha.... We named her Nantahala, 'Nanta' for short.

It was Beautiful....
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee, United States reena.ram.king... a cub cross the road someway in front of us, and then around the corner a guy on a motorbike waved us down to show us a Mum and two cubs in the woods, about 4 meters from the road - was breathtaking to watch them for what seemed like ages. The photos really don't do it justice, as I were too busy watching to be taking pictures! After a full days driving, we stayed over at a cheap motel in ...
