Sighting the Rifle In.

Meghan and I were able to shoot the 300 Mag. in this afternoon. We were not able to find and Elk life size target for practice, but had to settle for this Whitetail Deer. She shot this target and scored in the Harvest Zone from 100, 200, 250 & 300 Yards.
All we need now is the Elk to walk out in front of her once we are hunting.

Geting ready for the trip.

The "To Do" & "Get Ready" Lists continues.

We should be ready by this weekend, and have the majority of our stuff packed.
Still have a few things to buy, but overall we could leave tomorrow if we had to.
This is really going to be a fun ...

Our Last Night on the Border

Hello All. We have really enjoyed our stay in Brownsville, TX to visit Jerry's parents. We don't see them often and it is always bittersweet when the visit nears an end.

We went out for a casual dinner with the parents and Jerry's brother, Juan, and wife Vivian. Then it was back to the hotel to begin packing up our belongings.

Beach Fun

It is always a must to spend some time on South Padre Island. SPI is located about 20 minutes from Brownsville. Alex now knows about the "beach". He did not want to leave.

This was the girls first visit to the beach. They thought it was okay, but would have ...

No turning back!

... the way to the Matamoros bus station - which was far! It took us a few minutes to figure out how to navigate the bus station, but we finally did. We got our visa papers from Mexican Customs, and immediately boarded the first bus to Monterrey! Once on the bus we felt fairly safe, and even dozed off for a few hours! There's no turning back now!

Yippee! We got our own place in Winter Haven!

... delayed our departure, but that's one of the perks, as I always say, of being retired....we don't have to follow any set schedule, etc.

Another perk, now that we have our own place, we don't have to worry about finding a suitable lot every year and we can stay whenever, and for however long we want, and always come back 'home' each year. Here's a link to the Resort Map so you can see where everything is, etc. http://www ...

Our Mexican Odyssey began in Brownsville, TX

... south. So this year, we´re going to spend the winter traveling around nice warm Mexico. It took me several hours, getting ready to start our Mexican travels, to secure and put everything away that we had used during our six weeks at Winter Haven in Brownsville, TX. It's amazing what all accumulates in one form or another. Our 'new' RV (that we got after the ...

Dasher, Georgia to Amatitlán

... has to be a ´97 or older to be legalized. But I wanted to do it as legally as possible, I mean legally, but they don´t think like that, they´ve already broken into our country, what´s breaking the law another time. But there´s a lot of ignorance and deceit too. Not to sound racist, but don´t believe anything a Mexican tells you. They assured me before we left Georgia that there wouldn´t be any problems.

Home Again at Last

... have been the big hassle on this trip. I have washed tomatoes and cucumbers in chlorox solution, but lettuce is not feasible to clean properly, so we were looking forward to all that nice iceberg lettuce. I have to say, though, that other than salad being a problem, we have eaten very well. I had expected to be faced with a steady diet of tacos and enchiladas. In fact I am not sure we ever had either. I guess it was like expecting to eat nothing but chop suey and chow mein on a ...

It's La Border, Hombre

One reason I'm taking the coastal route of course is that I’ve already done the Laredo Route, including police fine for littering, so this is new. Who knows what you’ll find around every bend, right? Also there’s a dirt cheap flight from Harlingen to Houston ...
