... both inside and an open deck. The railing is floor to above head night glass, so feels very open. The view down to the street is dizzying, but across the city is beautiful. In all directions but particularly north and South, there is a spectacular vista. Looking north, you get the view of mid-town and the park, South is across downtown and lower Manhattan. East is out across Queens and West is New Jersey. We enjoyed the view for quite some time and decided to stay until the ...

... neighbourhood. Part of the 'refurbishment' is the "High Line" an overhead rail that had become defunct and is now turned into a green vein with trees and plants and a variety of clever/arty ways to tie the whole thing in with the surrounding streets. It was 5:55 am, by this stage, so I wasn't stressing but was getting agitated. We had to pay for the cab in advance so I used ...

Just woke up, now 07:20, quickly checked outside the window and yes it's a very bleak day, -2 degrees and snowing so the kids will be very excited again when they finally wake up. Will obviously put a dampener on our tourist activities and restrict our views from the tall buildings we were planning to attempt today! Any way it's a holiday so let's just enjoy whatever we can.. Breakfast this morning is on the cheap, cereal from a local deli, bowls from the little shop ...

    New York

... managed to bring D to one! I met an old friend who works at a hedge fund for dinner. I was reminded of the stereotypical "New York hedge fund", which operate like momentum traders. The gist of their "strategy" can be summed up by this stream of consciousness, which should be read out at rapid fire speed: Ok so my buddy at another fund tells me about this stock, I hear the story it sounds good, i like it, I show it to my boss, he says it sounds good, we buy ...
