We left Amarillo, Texas this morning heading to Calumet, Oklahoma on I-40 outside of Oklahoma City. As we headed east on I-40 in the Panhandle Plains of Texas, the land was very flat and we finally saw big Texan cattle ranches. East of Amarillo we could see huge ponds in the low-lying areas of many ranches from the previous Texas storms. We took a quick stop onto Historic 66 in the town of McLean to take a photo of an historic Phillips 66 gas station.

Once arriving at Black Kettle National Grassland, I was amazed by the hot heat conrrasted to the cold windy lunch we had today. The dang fool went by me doing maybe 110 and then slowed down to the same speed I was driving. He drove like that for about 5 miles, maybe 1/10 or 2/10 of a mile in front of me, and then ...

... numbers of motor homes and autos. I was surprised by how many motor homes are on the road.

Gas mileage has risen to a high of 10.9 mpg, averaging about 63 mph. Gas is CHEAP, compared to CA. I have been paying about $3.10-$3.25 per gallon across AZ, NM, TX, and OK. Even saw one station with $2.99. The octane rating for regular is 86, and the mid is 88. I wasn't sure whether 86 octane was enough for the MH (v10 engine, ...

    ... little else to see.

We passed through little towns like Yukon and El Reno. After a lunch stop, we got the call that Russell had been involved in an accident, so we travelled back to Yukon to see what could be done to help. He was evaced to Oklahoma Uni Trauma Centre - at least that was close by. His bike an belongings were taken by the Police and transport team.

With little that we could do, we headed off to Elk ...
