After a drive of a few hours, we arrived at our motel in the small town of...Hurricane! Thankfully we didn't encounter any severe weather, and I thought of those who must have been affected by the flooding from Hurricane Joaquin. (There is also a place called Tornado somewhere in W. Virginia!)

We had a late dinner after checking into our motel. Again, I had a dinner of ...

... so we have dinner for tonight.

We refueled the truck and headed back to Forest Lake. Hannah was glad to see us and Wendell took her for a short walk. Later, all three of us explored one of the trails. There is a historic graveyard inside the boundaries of the park and we hiked up and down the hills till we found it. Most of the grave markers were in sad shape; only a few were readable. There is a recorded typhoid epidemic in the area ...

For whatever reason, flight plan opening was more difficult, but ATC were more than helpful as always in providing 'flight following’ to our destination. Routing south of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we followed this southern flank all the way passing the town of Lynchburg about half way. With peaks over 4,000ft on our right, there ...

    Good to be Back

Pulled in around 2:30. Glad not to have another extended trip time anytime soon. We had a wonderful trip. Great friends to travel with, would definitely get the Special Ed Posse together again anytime, just not back to Alaska! Statistics are a bit sketchy, but by my feeble calculations, we did the following:

    Air Miles 5008
    Rail Miles 283
    Bus Miles 543
    Car Miles 1700
    Ship Miles 1240

    Hot Hot Hotter

OMG could it get any hotter on our first day here. When we went to the store the car indicated 99 but it was too hot to even be outside.

Our friend Tom, who lives in Winston-Salem, came by to visit and we went out to eat. The restaurant would be cooler than the motorhome since the air conditioner has a hard time keeping it ...
