Great town. It is my favourite Italian town so far. The others prefer Florence to Bologna but not me. I like the wide streets and bigger shops. The people are very chic and stylish and very friendly. They love their dogs and there are plenty of dogs of all types and sizes wandering around. Surprisingly, not that much doggy dos. Either the Bog Dogs are constipated or there is a doggy do fairy running around with a bag because I don't see many ...

... to Santa Maria dell Vitae, another city centre church (there are many in case you hadn't noticed by now) with some great art. The highlight of this church though is a sculpture set in red terracotta, showing the three Marys lamenting over the body of the Christ. They are all so clearly devastated that, as well as being life size, the figures are truly life like. The whole set has been accurately described as "a petrified scream". Simply wonderful. What is really hard ...

Well, the answer turned out to be round ...

... disappointing to be honest. Still we set off to find the National Gallery, which turned out to be about ten minute walk, and then went to lunch in a nearby cafe/bar as the gallery didn't open till two. Lunch was good and simple, but a bit pricey. We were tomdiscover though that this price is typical of Bologna. Ah well, can't have it all cheap you know! Then the gallery... Joy still hasn't come down to earth. She ...

Recovered after our hail storm adventure (recovery included a large steak meal and a few wines) we planned our trip to Modena to see the Ferrari Museum. Armed with tickets purchased the day before, we took the train to Modena via Bologna. There are in fact two museums and a factory. The newest museum is within walking distance from the Modena train station. This is a very modern building with the yellow roof in the shape of ...
