... punctuated with vigorous shouts. From the
restaurant we looked over the Armenian church. Later on we did some
research and discovered that there are 130,000 Armenians in Argentina.
The first wave of immigrants arrived in 1914 and 1915 during the
genocide back home.
We decided to get out and about and do a day trip from BA on Saturday.
We chose San Antonio de Areco, 113km northwest of BA and the centre of
gaucho culture. To our ...
... kids that was on the first trip with me, with a different set of parents. Twightlight Zone Part II.
The lunch itself was superb, for 30 pesos (about a fiver) all you can eat buffet. Everything type of food you can think of, including BBQ. Was told that at times the place feeds up to 1000 at a time, i can well believe it. Duty free was also interesting, good deals on Johnnie Walker: 4.5 litre of red for 79 US dollars, 149 dollars for black, and 302 dollars ...
... we lost the WiFi and I was concerned about power surges harming our electronics, so we put them away and headed out to the trails to get up close and personal with the waterfalls (taking the stairs lest we get caught in the elevator during one of the outages.)
The hotel is located just off the path from the main parking area for visitors, and there are two main trails here, the Upper Trail and the Lower Trail. The Upper lets you walk along slippery metal walkways to various ...
... We also found that it was a lot hotter than expected at 30C, relegating all the extra layers bought in Buenos Aires to the bottom of the backpack.
We spent the evening wandering around the Brazilian town. As it is just over the border from Argentina, a lot of things are similar (such as the love of Mate) but yet you can really tell you are in Brazil. The food is slightly different, the fashion is a lot more extravagant and the town felt a lot more ...
... quite and towards the end of the day after leaving the hi-speed boat that most elected to take to see and sort of go through some of the smaller falls I realized that I didn't know the final meeting point. So I finally get back to the main entrance and none of them had been within sight for over an hour. I decide it's rather futile to aimlessly search for them and instead ...
Foz de Iguacu, State of Parana, Brazil barry0fisher... on tolls alone, which we did not expect. Once more on a grey and dismal evening we are parked at another Posto.
28th - We have arrived at the border town of Foz de Iguaca, as well as the border this town is famous for a couple of other things and so we are now parked up at a campsite
(S25.33.34.40 W54.34.35.64)just on the edge of town getting sorted out to go site seeing tomorrow.
... to land on you throughout the day. We did suffer another wardrobe catastrophe this day though as the previous night we put practically every item of clothing we had into the laundry and then we were just left with our swim shorts and pajama tops to sightsee in around the falls! This actually came in handy though as we went on a boat trip that took us underneath one of the falls and got completely soaked in the process. The highlight of both sides of the ...
Iguazu Falls, Argentina samsonite32IN the evening we took a series of nightbuses to get to Iguacu. I'm not sure if I've explained yet but I was on a tour for this part of my trip ( a time and money decision). I also thought it would be a great way to meet like-minded people, but it turned out to be a bit of a joke! For the first part there were eight 18-19 year olds on their gap year and two very couply couples in their 30s. Then the couples left and I was left with what seemed like a school tour! Thank goodness ...
Foz de Iguacu, State of Parana, Brazil cornflake... secondary, and main, trail head and it was open! Saw no other hikers for almost an hour, which was awesome, and it was beautiful - both the weather and the trail. We saw another peccary, and this time managed to get a blurry picture of it before it ran off into the woods. Lots more spiders, mariposas, heard lots of beautiful bird calls, giant bamboo, and a second kind of smaller toucan (red-breasted toucan), although we ...
Iguazu Falls, Argentina lisakpenning... I spent 9 months living in Texas, and that was incredibly hot, but I have NEVER experienced 39 degrees C before, it felt like we were melting... It dried ...
