... washed out by recent landslides due to heavy rain, so there was a major detour inland and steeply uphill to a crossroads from where we could turn back to the coast and approach Sao S from the other direction – 2 hours & a change of bus later I arrived! At 10.40pm it is not a good time to shop for a hotel and having eventually got decent directions, I had to refuse help from a dodgy local then wait for him to disappear from sight, before heading on - the directees ...

Apparently, according to my Brazilian friends, lizards are good to have around because they eat flies and mosquitoes so I decided to name him (he’s called Gustavo, Gus for short) and allow him to live under the sofa/behind the wardrobe. We have still not found the mice. We could well be living in a zoo.

... a few drinks that evening we all got to know each other. To my delight Sam´s husband Renato is a chef and so food was a big part of our stay at their house, especially some amazing Brazilian BBQ´s, yum!
In the morning we woke to an amazing view from our bedroom window. Their apartment was right on the waters edge, as you walked out of the french doors there was a raised seating/BBQ ...
... and ball on the beach....... awesome fun, although we learned playing Brazilian beach games next to Brazilians is a bad idea if you want to impress.
A much more relaxed night at Conveis - just Mikey, Anna, Helena and myself left, and a crazy electric storm to keep us company.
Traveller tip of the day: When you get sunstroke, best to stay near a toilet.
