Puerto Angel and Interior Oaxaca

... big open doors balancing baskets with breads, fruit and vegetables on their heads. Dogs run by and people sweep the streets. Yes, itīs all very pleasant... A little reminder, if you just want to check the photos press the slide show button. One week ago we left San Cristobal and travelled all night to Puerto Angel near Huatulco. Night travelling was not a bad way to go as we didnīt have to pay for a room that night and we slept for most (or part) of ...

... assigned a seat , have to go through security and even get fed, though no food appeared on this trip. All of this I deduced by observing those around me. (Really need to crack on with my Spanish as I have been quite lazy until now and will need it more and more from here on in.). The journey was quite bumpy and I woke on average every half hour, so was feeling pretty jaded by the time I reached the hostel. Oaxaca from what I have seen so far ...

... to find the boat had left at 10am, the new departure time for the last 6 months - luckily they drove me out to meet the boat in their lancha - it had not gone far & I had not missed much! On the tour you see 7 bays from a great distance but only actually stop at 2, not including the one that was in the film "Y tu mama tambien" I had already been told that Boca del Cielo was the beach in the film -  I imagine each state I go to will have at least one beach that featured in the ...

... world below you.... After walking around we caught up with a fellow tourist in the restaurant, Sylvia, a film producer and marketer in hger 60s from Barcelona, and drank beer, chatted and I tried to get a picture of the hummingbirds flitting through a nearby tree until the bus came to collect us. Another dangerous day of adventure biking - complete! Almost. Then we walked through some local markets back in town. Oaxaca is the home of ...

Starvng in Oaxaca

... We spent 2 of our 4 nights here in Casa Don Pablo - the beer is cheap and the rooms are clean. Only downer for couples is shared bathroom, although it was clean. The other 2 nights were in Hotel Antonios, which was nice but double the price. We visited El Tule to see the biggest tree in the world which is over 2000 years old. Caught the local bus, leaves right beside the big market. The tree is the widest in the world, so don't expect the tallest. Worth a gander though.

... for the students at all! And that Solexico is the party school! Of course I would end up at the party school, I have the best luck! Anyway Solexico has something almost every day to do. I'm about to go to lunch in my house, I'm excited and very hungry or tengo hombre. I'm trying to practice ok! The boys at school laughed at me today because I asked what kind of outfits are worn to café social. Well I want to dress appropriate, but I have no idea why I even asked, they ...

... to San Domingo museum: nice things from the Zapotacs who lived here (the cultures of all the old tribes in Mexico and Guatemala are almost the same, but I enjoy each visit). I walked in the street until 21:00(there was a concert in the Zokolo), when I went back to the hoteel, to find it more noisy then on the streets... 26/3 - Monte-Alban route After waken up at 4:30, I slept again, then walked around until 10:00, when I have a guided tour($22): we went to ...

... and motor) boat costs US$30-35 per hour (the same kind of thing in Baja [not around touristic Cabo], used to cost less than that for the whole day)! A better boat (like a small cabin cruiser or like the ones in Maui) cost around US $50-75 per hour!! They actually charging as much as the Maui boats, which is ridiculous! Terry also finally got to discuss fishing with ...

Day 18 - Acapulco to Huatulco, Mexico

Got up at 7, hoping to beat the heat and most of all, the insane traffic out of Acapulco. Got some directions from the hotel owner how to exit the city an easier way than the map showed...we should have followed the map. Acapulcoians drive the same way Saturday mornings as they do Friday afternoons. We took some wrong turns and found ourselves off ...

Oaxaca de Mis Recuerdos

... in the last three months. There is virtually no international press coverage of Oaxaca, in fact, most Mexicans outside of this southern state do not know what is going on. Southern Mexico, poor and rural, is forgotten by the world, is largely forgotten by its own federal government. The bottom line is that the **** that go down in the third world without anyone noticing is truly mind-boggling. What started as an annual teacher`s strike has turned into a broad based populist moment ...
