... from our hotel.

A quick coffee/toilet stop, and we headed down Via Cola di Rienzo. Sure enough there were sale signs everywhere. After a couple of aborted attempts I found some red suede moccasins. I don't think they'll last for ever, but think they will be comfortable, and a nice splash of colour. Further down the road was a Geox shop, which had some lace up walking shoes that I had been looking at in Milan. They ...

... ripe locals on the journey. Once in the hilltop village, we lunched, then bought tickets to visit Villa D'Este, which was merely an historic building in front of exceptional gardens, fountains and views of Rome on the horizon. A very pleasant afternoon in the country. Bought ingredients for dinner, and I made up a lamb stew with dumplings, followed by nutella crepes. Everybody ...

... to the Vatican so Mum could post the postcard she had forgotten to post to her Mother. I of course was not at all impressed with this last additional item and my legs were about to fall off. So Nan had better enjoy the card! The day concluded with a fantastic Italian meal and then packing our bags ready for our ridiculously early departure to Paris the next day. It was busy, but overall we ticked all the items we had for Rome and a very memorable time. Ciao ...

... the San Sebastian Catacombs. Although used as a general burial area in Roman times, they now lie underneath a church. Most of the catacombs are dug into volcanic rock that was soft at the time but hardens up when exposed to air. Contrary to some popular belief, Christians did not probably meet in worship under here, although many people lived in the tunnels during hard times. There were some lamps still built into the walls in places ...

... br> Strolled down the main street, window shopping. Sara spotted a large white marble building in the distance with large bronze carriages on the roof. She kept on trucking 'til she could get a picture. (Found out later we would pass this national capital building many times on our tour bus.)

Made it back to the hotel for an early bedtime in light of the heavy schedule of sightseeing planned for the morrow.

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Re di Roma Rome

    Good value smart hotel

New hotel (opened autumn 2007) in a quiet location about 100 metres from Re di Roma metro - convenient for the major sites

Rooms are small but smart, clean and modern

    Reception staff friendly and helpful

Breakfast in small room (when the hotel is full you might have to wait), with possibly the worst cup of coffee I have ever had anywhere (and in Italy too!) - ask the waitress to bring you a capuccino or espresso - much better!

Overall very good value for Rome and a perfect base to explore the main attractions

Cannot Stop Raving About Hotel Re Di Roma

I was a bit hesitant when we first booked this hotel as we couldn’t find any reviews in English... but we saw some positive remarks on a forum and decided to stick to our booking... and I'm so glad we did!

We arrived at the hotel all flustered as I had just discovered that my wallet was pickpocketed from my bag on the metro on the way there. After checking us in, the person at the front desk called the owner of the hotel, Eugenio, and he came down to the front desk and proceeded to bring us to the nearby police station. Eugenio was extremely friendly and spoke English really well. Thanks to Eugenio for waiting with us at the police station  The same guy at the front desk also helped us to break the lock on my luggage (the key was in my stolen wallet). The other two persons who manned the front desk the three days we stayed there were also very helpful and spoke English.

The rooms are exactly as pictured in the travellers’ photos on this website. Having had a chance to talk to Eugenio, we found out that the hotel just opened a few months ago, which meant that everything was nearly brand new! I loved the interior design of the room (dark curtains, wooden floors) and the flat-screen TV, and loved the fact that the room was always toasty warm – a welcome respite from the wintery cold outside. The shower was a little small though. Breakfast was simple but satisfying… the sliced ham was a nice touch. We weren’t served coffee on both days but I suspect the lady manning the breakfast area only spoke Italian and thus was afraid to speak to us.

The location of the hotel was great too - it’s four stops from the main Termini station (just a short walk from the Re Di Roma station), and on the same line as the Metro stop for the Vatican City. There is a department store and huge supermarket (Standa) just minutes away so don’t bother with the tiny grocery store opposite the hotel. The neighbourhood that the hotel is in is quiet and seemed pretty safe.

We were lucky to have stayed at this hotel at the very start of our trip and just after my unfortunate pickpocketing incident – as it allowed us to meet some very friendly and helpful Italians and helped to put our trip back onto a positive note.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome.

Struttura completamente nuova, personale gentilissimo e disponibile.

    - zuvorkommender, sehr freundlicher Service (z.B. Einchecker-

laubnis vor 11:00, Gepäckaufbewahrung am letzten Tag)

    - hervorragende Kommunikationsmöglichkeit (Deutsch /

    - Frühstück reichhaltig und gut

    - sehr sauber

Nuovo hotel a Roma, in zona tranquilla e ben servita dai mezzi pubblici.
