Rivas San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
Weīre here again. Staring to feel like home. An accident really, but after leaving Gracias and spending a night in the equally unexciting town of Comayagua we drove straight to Nicaragua. Seven hours including the (again problem-free) border crossing. Stopped by police again on route. Tried to get us for not having a fire extinguisher in the car. Chris just told him we didnīt need it and seems he couldnīt be bothered to argue. So, the obvious place to stop was Esteli. Checked into the same ho...
Esteli, Nicaragua, Nicaragua hannah.thompson... out for a bumpy, hot ride to the beach. Although it´s only about 13 miles away, the drive took nearly an hour. At the ranger station, we got our first surprise. A few of the nests had actually hatched earlier, during the day. This is a bad idea for the turtles, as there are far more predators during the day, and sure enough, these nests were immediately attacked by predatory birds. As a result, the rangers had chased away the birds, and ...
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua kimandjohn... and it was pure unadulterated joy.

We had it in our heads to go to Finca Magdalena on the north side of the second island, and so even though it was 5 pm and light was failing and James really didn’t have what you could call lights on his bike, we still thought it was a good idea. Missing the main turning to take us onto the second island made us even later and the bugs and flies were diving into our faces, mouths and noses at such a rate and velocity it ...
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua hess... come but it never did so we were
forced into another taxi, expensive this time. Travelling on public
holidays is always risky.
We were staying in an out of season
coffee farm at the base of the second smaller volcano and arrived just
before sunset. I am happy we were not any later because the sunset was
spectacular. I watched the red of the sun hit the blue of the lake and
the blackness of a volcano from a hammock on a ...
Moyogalpa, Rivas, Nicaragua jaspergreene... and so surreal. At one point Devin thought he might have seen a small fin but wasn't sure. Also, we were in pretty shallow water so we knew if there were any sharks they wouldn't be dangerous ones. After our swim we rode our bikes to the store to get food for breakfast. Devin cooked me a wonderful breakfast of pancakes and eggs. After that I went back in the ocean, my third time that day, and you'll never guess what I saw right ...
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua cmedancing... some, eh?). They allowed us the use of their surfboards when they weren't on the water, and of their kitchen facilities too, which was most useful as this was one thing our hostel was lacking. A couple of resupply mission to San Juan enabled us to cook up a storm for the week, which made for a nice break from restauranting.

Apart from eating together, we also went surfing together, though the first day that I headed out with them was an educational experience ...
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua roryd... front of some not so friendly looking rocks which meant falling off would most likely leave you a little banged up.
I went for another surf later in the afternoon and the waves where still perfect, this was only a short surf because my arms where beggining to feel like noodles dangling at my sides.
Today I got up bright and early for my first spanish lesson, im not sure how much of it I remember but its all written down so I guess I will get off the net and go study it for awhile.
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua reece_k... mood outside the river, and me and Amelia pushed the kayak till a place of the river without trees. Those *******s had made me even blood, so I put mud in my body. As we were coming back, already inside the kayak, we started laughthing: we were not allowed to take out our life vest, or to go down the kayak by no reason...how could I explained I was fully covered by mud?? : ) The trip was anyhow great, we stoped to eat something, and I was swimming in that lake that ...
Merida, Georgia, Nicaragua ncirauquWe arrived in San Juan a few days ago. Its a cool town pretty much oevrrun by Gringo surfers and begrudging locals. We think that a lot of business has been taken over by American expats so not so many friendly faces around here. Anyway we have been keeping busy by swimming in the freezing cold sea and perfecting our hacky ...
San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua bradandbecs... and all just started smiling like a bunch of idiots. They promptly started shrieking and throwing sticks at us. And then Kate noticed a big-ass boa constrictor on a stick right next to us. Compared to the monkeys, the snake wasn´t all that exciting. It didn´t throw anything. After seeing those guys, we continued up the trail to our viewpoint. We didn´t go to the top as there are dangerous gas constantly pouring from the volcano. Instead, we stopped half way up the mountain at a ...
