    ... giants. We also saw hog dear and a porcupine amongst other animals but…did I mention WILD ASIAN ELEPHANTS…yes I thought I did.

    It's not that I see day one of our current mini adventure as a success; it is much deeper than that…I remember why I travel and I am starting to remember what is important to me in the world.

    We continued up the narrowing valley.. As we rose, the forest gave way to alpine scrub and grasses. We enjoyed the warmth of the cave at Hinku. Today started off sunny and warm, despite the rise in altitude.

    ... We kicked off the holiday in great style with champagne toasts for Ann'a birthday. A sample or two of the rice whiskey I brought from Laos made the rounds as well. Dulak, our host here in Kathmandu, explained to us that Tilac would be our mountain guide which pleased me no end, as his English is excellent.
