When we went back to the main building, we went out to the Top of Salzburg again and went out on some snow for a little bit. Then we went inside to warm up and have a beer. (The High Alpine Road with Mountains and Glaciers)
Today we drove the Grossglockner high alpine road, which goes through the Hohe Tauern national park. The road is named for the Grossglockner mountain, the highest in Austria at 3798 meters. The road is 48 km long with 36 hairpin turns, and ascends up and over a pass in the Alps called the Hochtor (high gate) at 2504 km. The Hochtor is also the border between the Austrian states of Salzburg and Carinthia.
