Today we had an easy morning, it included walking to an old farm and going through the buildings while escaping wasp nests and trying not to get eaten alive by mosquitoes. We also watched Pekka smoke the fish we had caught yesterday which we then ate for lunch. After lunch we played cards, learning a new Finish game which Paivi won, but only just! Today I drove one of the cars a couple of hours inland to Joutsa where Paivi's parents have a Summer Cottage, Paivi's Dad built two previous cottages and sold them, this is his third and final one. It's a 1 acre section covered in trees by the lake, first he built a small one bedroom cottage which they (Paivi's parents are staying), then he added a another one with a mezzanine floor and attached a Sauna which is very traditional here in Finland (this is where we ...

... Nature Centre this morning which is close to the hotel and get to it through a lovely wood. After lunch visited Kuhmo - 3km from hotel part of which was through a lovely village in the middle of the trees. Saw good bit of the town and bought some souvenirs. When got back to hotel had the evening sauna and jacuzzi before dinner which was fun - the view from jacuzzi is stunning.

i was able to experience so many wonderful things living in this small community in lappish finland, including a Sami reindeer herding (sami people are traditional people who herd reindeer for a living...they dont like husky farmers much), 60km hike accross the finnish landscape and training husky dogs on quad bikes.

I would love to have stayed longer but when one lives in scandinavia the money runs out pretty quickly, especially when you ...

... eaten during the Labour Day weekend is Tippaleipa. It is a deep fried sweet made from flour, sugar and honey and dusted in icing sugar. By the time the Team met at Sibelius Hall to watch the Lahti Symphony Orchestra: Traditional May Day concert at 12:30pm, the celebrations in Lahti were in full swing.
