... and some lovely Finnish cakes? It was in fact 1990 that Gwyneth and I first came to Finland to pioneer links between Physical Education at the University of Plymouth with the University of Lapland, later Gwyneth completing a year at the University of Jyvaskyla. We drive on through the rain and are now sitting in glorious sunshine at about 8pm in a lovely campsite - Saynaniemi, near Puhelin, not too far from Tampere. A lovely end to the ...

... the weekend after so hopefully plenty to talk about then!

    THINGS I DID

    Disc Golf - A
Awesome fun. It was free, took 2-2.5 hours and was great exercise. Seriously, give it a go - just remember to avoid the trees as the discs don't really pass through them.

    Finnish Sauna - A
Done authentically with no pants! Only things missing were an ice cold pool to plunge into and an ice cold beer to drink but I'll get to that next time.

... I'm sure there is a guidebook though lol.

I also explored a bit more of the town and grabbed a bite to eat at a pretty cheap and friendly pizza place. 7 euro for a decent sized pizza with 4 kinds of meat on it - my kind of place!!

    Things I did
Ran round the "large" lake - A
Peaceful, safe and flat. Do it.

Visited Harju Park and the viewing tower - ...

... I paid about 30 euros for a big main course and a large beer.

Ate at Colonial Restaurant in Scandic Hotel - B
The restaurant in the hotel I stay at is pretty good and not too expensive. You can get a cheeseburger or a pulled pork burger for about 12-15 euros and a large beer sets you back 5-6 euros. There are other, slightly more elaborate, things on the menu and some of the steaks that have come out look pretty decent. Its a ...

    Fighting boredom

A travel blog entry by joahonen on Jul 16, 2013

... a bit of a photowalk by the lake (by myself) and sat in one of my fave cafes for quite a while, because I didn't fancy getting soaked by the bipolar weather. Sunshine and pouring rain, pouring rain and sunshine. Now I'm heading to my friends', as I decided to extend my visit by one night at their place, just so we could catch up properly.

In other words, I fought the boredom and I won. My wallet may not be thrilled, but at ...
