... and are anxious to get out and explore. The fort is worthy of most of a day so today we decide to visit the small shrine nearby with views over the city and across to the fort. Jodphur is known as the blue city, and this is due to the tradition that everyone from the Religious caste living inside the old city wall was entitled to paint their house blue. A symbol of their elevated position in society, the law has now been changed so anyone living in the old city ...

Quante risate...

An insane travel day

... he would provide us with any tourist information we needed. We had had enough and paid for the room (RS$150) and drinks and left the place as soon as we got our passports back. We walked for a while in the ridiculous hot midday sun. We found the tourist information center and asked about tours. They don't do tours in the off season...which was disappointing. We had wanted to do a quickie tour of some of the major sites in Jodhpur...just to say we had seen stuff there ...

Jodhpur - Two ill kittens

... elaborate jewelry and fancy colored saris which all adds to the vibrant street life. Later this afternoon we are going to visit the fort which is built upon a high rock plateau and dominates the landscape around it, leaning over the city below like an angry father. Just a shorty this time, but we all get ill, especially in India! As a little boy said to me in the street only this morning, everthing is "good good fine"... XXX

... palace complex in Rajasthan (according to the guide book). It was exceptionally beautiful and we wandered through the maze of rooms at leisure although we got some rather threatening looks from some local women and sped up abit after that. The guidebook also boasted that you could have high tea at the restaurant so we headed of in search of this mouth watering concept (Jess almost wandering into the Maharaja's swimming pool by accident) and discovered ...

Pearl-colored inside and decorated with colored glass windows, this is where the Maharaja held his audiences, with the five alcoves on the far wall allowing his queens to listen in. The inner sanctum of the ...

7 hour bus ride to Jodhpur. Found a great place to stay and unwittingly beat them down on the price too. Hot water! And mixed in the same shower as cold water too, we could get used to this! We met an Aussie bloke named Mick on the bus, really nice bloke, and hung out with him for the day, stayed at the same place. We had just booked into the hotel when a young family told us about the news, 200 people ...

Jodhpur: The Blue City

I love how places become associated with simple one-line phrases that cut through the **** and tell you how it really is, like for instance: "Jodhpur: The Blue City". The first impression of Jodphur is anything but- It is a dusty, red sandstone monolith. It is something of a betrayal, a fraud; up there with: "South Australia: The Excitement State!" or; "Western Australia: Home of the America's Cup" or; "New York: The Big Apple!" (what apple? where?). But the 'blue' is there ...
