... tuks), 13 or 14 different vehicles and more than 30 hours driving. At one point one of the buses stopped in the middle of nowhere to pick up some hardwood planks and another bus change saw 16 people and luggage for 14 crammed into a 14 seater minibus. Fun. Do not underestimate the utter madness of Cambodian minibus transport. We made it to PP pretty late, luckily found nice rooms and had a great nights sleep and a delicious breakfast before getting the bus 4 hours to the beach ...
Sihanoukville, Cambodia jirdgirl... to see Angkor Wat. A round trip that could be done for $50 all in. When I asked why they hadn't visited yet the answer was that they were too poor. As you can see from the pictures they just look like regular kids but their passion and dedication to improve themselves is something to be respected. There were a few toe rags but I gave them the teacher death stare and it was fine.
I enjoyed it but glad it was just a few days
... were pretty cool, you could go right inside into a little cave etc, considering it was an absolutly scorching day, the water was a god send. We spent the rest of the day ******* around town on our peds. As we were following some locals through a red light (which is the norm), we got pulled over by the fuzz and got fined a few dollars each (whatever!).
We watched movies into the night and got the early bus for Siagon-
... to the most popular; Don Det. Don Det is beautiful, very laid back and somewhat 'rural'. You only get electricity for three hours a day but in this place you just don't need it. Get a good book, lie in your hammock and laze the day away. We did do things to pass the time in our three days there though. We got bicycles to tour the island and neighbouring Don Kong (the film name opportunities for that were mouth watering) and went fishing with local fishermen. We managed to ...
Sihanoukville, Cambodia dantheeducator... be an overstatement. Still $2 a night and it was all we needed. There were 2 toilets and showers (although only one worked, and a dribble at that) - and it was really bad if someone was sick in one, or both, of the toilets during the night before!
We hit the beach (Serendipity) and again did the BBQ thing. On the way to get food I was walking along the beach looking out to sea or talking to Pete and I fell down a hole that had a concrete foundation in for a large umbrella ...
... bungalow was ideal. However, I quickly changed my mind as there was a massive hord of mosquitos that attacked us through out the night. I could not sleep nor could I defend myself. The next day we asked to be changed to a different room with AC and concrete floors. I will continue this blog later. I have to run off and go pack for our Laos trip. We leave tomorrow at 6:10!
Sihanoukville, Cambodia der... USD 15. Fairly large, fan and air conditioning. toilet and cold water shower. TV mini Fridge. Mostly just kicked back and relaxed. Happy hour and dinner at the beach. Beach nothing to rave about. Good sunsets. Cold draft beer at half US dollar. Good sea food. Ran into a Russian from hostel in Kunming. Cambodians are attractive friendly people. Language barrier limits acquintances. Few speak English and then rather basic.
Sihanouk, Cambodia radsolv... to keep his nose stuck in a book:
'I see, your a good swimmer,' was his compliment.
We dodged the hawkers hawking allsorts, and had the much deserved 50 cents pint.
Nice watching the sun sink behind yonder sea, and made our way back to the guest house.
Just needed to explore the area to find a quieter beach. We did, eventually.
Can't think why people from these countries would try anything to get into the EU like the UK.
It beats me.
... at. What was quite shocking was the poverty, my senses was bombarded from many different sources. From the airport to Sihanoukville it is one straight road, there are no traffic lights, stray cows roam the road freely, it seems no one owns the cows. My cab driver drove like a madman who was possessed, I have never seen such driving in my life. From what I observed there are no traffic regulations for road users, everyone is doing their own thing. Lorries just overtake each other with ...
Sihanoukville, Cambodia traveller64446... of curiosity and mirth but this took the harmless form of furtive glances, shy smiles and quiet whispers. Only one or two were sufficiently curious to overcome their natural diffidence and stare at us, goggle-eyed.
The language of Cambodia is more difficult to attain, even at a most elementary level, than either Thai or Lao. Like the others, it is a sing-song language and words may have several different meanings depending on the tonality conferred upon different syllables ...
