So as we were driving from the airport to the hotel, I was consciously checking my feelings about being in India. I was quite nervous about coming to India expecting quite a bit of culture shock, but after being here for a day and a half, I don't have any culture shock. Complementary fishing was offered as part of the cruise, but having inspected the 1 metre piece of bamboo which as attached to another metre of line and rusty hook, combined with the 'man' version of Delhi belly, M decided to preserve the Kerala fish stock for another day.

... 4. The road to our resort was washed out in the rainy season so Salim (driver) drove at a snail'space. Finally got to the resort and had to take a pole boat across the channel to our cottage. I had upgraded rooms and had to laugh when we saw it. It was very old, had no water and the toilet was broken. We went on our 1.5 hour boat ride of the backwaters that only lasted 20 minutes because we were so late it was getting dark. I noticed some new cottages at the end of ...

So after the usual shena****ns at the bus station – buses zooming in and out with everyone knowing which bus was which apart from us...we were helpfully directed to the right one when it arrived and jumped on in the 30 second window provided. Then began an interesting journey. Basically our driver was mental. He mostly liked to drive on the wrong side of the road overtaking every vehicle he came across regardless of if he was heading straight into a blind corner, ...
