US Part 1- LA

After an early morning and Karrina being checked by every "random" security check, they finally made it to Sydney. After going through customs they discovered there would be no smoking until their arrival in the States (15 hours later). This sent Adam slightly crazy and Karrina slightly scared of Adam. The flight was horrible. Thats all there is to say about that. Suprisingly Adam didnt complain too much about the lack of nicatine in his lungs, but he was crying inside. Arrived in LA complete...

Las Vegas to Los Angeles

Sorry to see Las Vegas go it was an early start today. The Shuttle bus picked us up at 6:30 for the 5 minute bus trip to the Las Vegas airport for our 9:50 flight! They tell us we need 2 hours to check in and get through security but just over 3 hours was out of control. Check in is random in Vegas. You Self Check in like in Australia, but there is no line once this is completed. Its totally random once you have your boarding pass to get your luggage checked. Some people who got their boardin...

8 days in LA - Possibly the coolest place ever!

Los Angeles… oh where do I start on this amazing place?! Well I will try and stay in order of everything I experienced while I was there. Firstly, on arriving into LA, it took about 1.5hrs to get to our hotel with our transfer service… I don’t remember a lot about it because I was so tired and kept dozing off but I remember we did drop people off at a university. I think we were just unlucky though because we were the last ones to be dropped off up in West Hollywood. Anyway,...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Ramada Plaza Hotel West Hollywood

Great Place!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked this place via Hotels.com and relied on internet pics, tripadvisor.com reviews & price, of course! I found this hotel great and will be staying there again, next trip! (Not one for families though!) Yes, it is central to all the sights & it is easy to get around! My room was the cheapest single room available, it had a king size bed & a balcony, small 'lounge' area, tv, big bathroom (with hair dryer, shampoo etc). Enviromentally friendly hotel, where you choose if you want to re-use your linen, but my maids still changed them everyday!! No great view, but I didn't stay in much! Room was big enough, clean & great Columbian coffee instead of instant in room. Pool on 2nd floor is great! There is a store nearby to purchase groceries you might need. Too much to see & do in this neighbourhood! The Dash bus service (25 cents) is close by (i/s La Cienega & SM Blvd)and great for getting to Hollywood proper, or Beverly Hills (if you can't be bothered walking!). Sunset Blvd is a 10 min. walk away. Beverly Plaza 10 mins walk. Rodeo Dr, 15-20! Great Cafes, Restaurants on Santa Monica Blvd., and Starbucks next door. Staff at the hotel were great, very helpful and friendly. I did not use the room safe & did not get charged for it. Local calls from room $1, so I recommend a phone card, there are call boxes nearby. Gay area, but this single straight girl felt safe enough to stroll around on her own, & the local sheriffs only advised me to not to go past Fairfax St (on Sunset Blvd.) alone at night, so I didn't! Highly recommend the House Of Blues, Sunday Brunch with Gospel ($35) great food & music! Roxy, Viper Room & HOB all on Sunset. Metro Buses are currenly still on strike, but just put on your walking shoes and DO IT! (By the way, I got a peak at one of their suites and they are REALLY nice!)

Bad Service from an average hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was the first Ramada that we stayed in on our months trip of America, We were not to sure whether it was Jet lag or complete lack of service that we got a bad first impression. They gave us the wrong room type and the girls behind the desk were very unfriendly. They gave us no information on how to get around even when we asked they just grunted at us. To be fair the rooms are what you would expect for the price however it doesn't cost anything to give friendly service. We stayed for a total of 3 days and were glad to leave. Ramada do charge an extra $1 for a safe everyday whether you use it or not. I would only recommend this hotel as a last resort

Great comfortable hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Ramada on Santa Monica Blvd. was a great choice for us, we had no car, and public transport was most important to us, so it was great to find that Metro Bus no.4 from Santa Monica to Hollywood went right by the hotel to and from. Just around the corner was the Hollywodd Dash bus service for 25cents a ride into Hollywood. The hotel has a nice pool and it's outside, away from the main street, it's very relaxing, there's a 24hr gym across the road. The room was splendid, nothing wrong with it. The luggage man can be totally friendly but if ya wanna keep your tips and bags to yourself, then watch him, he's onto you before you can step inside the front door!! Their internet service was at the bar, in plain view, no privacy, and they had horrible stools to sit on, makes your back bend and it's uncomfortable. Overall, it's a great hotel, and the concierge man was very helpful with information, locations and bus services etc.

Good deal in great neighborhood

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a great location near all the attractions in Hollywood, Sunset Blvd., Beverly Hills. Not a neighborhood for families on vacation. I'm shocked anytime I see a family at this hotel. Neighborhood is quite progressive. Not convenient to any major highways. The hotel is a good price for what you get. Rooms are dated and service is sometimes great, sometimes terrible. Parking was $17 per night last time I was there. A plus is the fact that there is a Starbucks Coffee next door. Great for a business trip. Get your morning coffee and go. I would highly recommend this hotel for single people looking for a fun time in a progressive part of town.

A pit.

Let's see... unapologetically surly desk staff and a room so dirty I managed to get sick from it (ear infection and conjunctivitis). The promised exercise facility turned out to be the gym across the street -- which you have to pay an additional $15.00 a day for. I've stayed in a lot of hotels in the area in the past ten years, require very little of my lodgings, and this was just a bummer.

On the plus side, a cool neighborhood. As long as you're not booke dat the Ramada.

Great location, good rooms

from A TripAdvisor Member
Well situated in the happening area of West Hollywood, I had a great stay at this 'open-minded' hotel. The staff were excellent and friendly (one of them perhaps a little too friendly asking all about my night before!).

The rooms are good - simple, reasonable clean, but quite dated. That said, for the price and located in the middle of Hollywood, I'm not complaining.

The pool area is great in the summer, even if the pool is a little small.

The hotel is quiet despite it's location and is well serviced by gyms, coffee shops, bars, etc which are all a stone's throw away.

Would stay here again and recommend couples, singles, etc stay here.

Not one for the families.

Just fine

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel was just fine. Rooms were nice size and clean. I have no idea what another reviewer meant by "filthy, filthy." Sounds to me like he just did not like the idea that he was in a gay area. For the money and location, the Ramada Wesy Hollywood was more than acceptable.

Fantasic, Brilliant

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel in West Hollywood was the best we have ever stayed in. The people at the desk were most polite and very professional. Our room was very clean and bigger than most ive seen. The conssiurge (spelling?) named Jorg was sensational and very helpful. The facilities were fantastic. I want to give our conssiurge "Jorg", a special mention and a recommendation to any hotel that may want a skilled people person. I guarantee you will enjoy your stay at the Ramada, as the people there enjoy vistors. Keep up the great work guys. I will see you all again. Thumbs up!

Do Not Stay Here

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a filthy filthy hotel. As advertised in Expedia the rooms were supposed to be clean and oversized... in reality the rooms were disgusting: dirty, moldy, old and extremely small. In fact, they were so small that we had to put the table between the beds with the chair on top to fit our son's roll-away. The carpets so dirty it left us all afraid to take our socks off and the bathrooms gross with mold and mildew. We stayed three nights because I booked online and I would have had to pay the entire sum if we had left. NOTE OF ADVICE: When you book online you cannot cancel if are dissatisfied or there is a 100% penalty. Book thru the hotel directly unless you are absolutely sure you know the hotel... a few extra dollars will be worth it in the long run if you need to check out.I spent hours looking for a nice hotel for my daughter's 16th birthday present... a trip to hollywood. This was a horrible experience for our family and in the end we spent just as much if I had booked with one of the nicer hotels...$73 a night plus an undisclosed $20 parking fee, a dollar for every time the phone was picked-up even for a second and even for 1-800 numbers, a dollar for a dusty in-room safe that was never used and $15 for the roll-a-way. Our nightly total ended up at $120 a night. Also be advised this is NOT a neighborhood for kids. While driving to our hotel one night and only a block away... my daughter yells out "there's a man who doesn't look like he has any clothes on dancing in the window in front of all those men".THERE ARE FAR BETTER HOTELS IN THE AREA DO NOT STAY HERE.

Nice Place, Can be Good Value

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here in April 2002 and got a really great value. At the time the "manager's special" offered a deal way below the official rates; we were bumped up to a "small suite" which has loads of space and features including a huge bed, nice desk, fridge and counter area.

Would stay here again, although West Hollywood in general is a disappointing place with too much attitude.
