Historical Traveler Reviews Ramada Plaza Basel Hotel And Conference Center

    Super Hotel

    from

As we had never been to Basel before, we booked this hotel based on price and after reading reviews on tripadvisor. We booked a regular room but were given an upgrade on arrival to a lovely suite. Very modern and spotlessly clean. Bathrooms a good size and the underfloor lighting was certainly different. Excellent food in the restaurant and staff who spoke English, French, German.....American! Thoroughly excellent hotel.

    Very Modern Hotel

    from

We stayed a week at the Ramada Basel with a group of 85 Americans. The hotel was absolutely wonderful - not a complaint from anyone in the group.

The checkin was the most efficient I have ever seen for a large group. They had rooms pre-assigned and keys ready. The buses arrived from Zurich airport before noon - and just about everyone was checked in within 1/2 hour. Even though check in time is normally 3pm, only a few people had to wait for their rooms to be cleaned.

The breakfast buffet was wonderful, including eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, cereal, bread, meat, cheese, juice, etc.

The location is great, with a tram stop right by the hotel that gets you anywhere in Basel in 15 minutes or less. Lots of restaurants and shops close by.

The hotel is very modern and the rooms are especially so. Floor to ceiling windows in every room gave absolutely spectacular views. I loved sleeping with the shades open and the stars clearly visible. The blinds are inside the windows and automatically close when the sun is coming in brightly (though you can manually open them). The bathrooms are very modern with interesting fixtures and a lighted floor. Easy internet access including a pay computer in the lobby.

The staff was always friendly, efficient and helpful - all spoke English to some degree.

No need for a car in Basel, the public transportation system is outstanding.

I would absolutely recommend a stay in this hotel to anyone.

And be sure and try the disco bathrooms out. The disco is on the top floor and the bathrooms also have floor to ceiling windows! Luckily it's high enough up that no one can see details!

Be sure and do a ferry ride while you're in Basel. No motors, the current just carries them across the river along a guide wire.

    Gute Lage, modernes Hotel

    from

    Fantastische Lage, sehr preiswert

    from

Fantastic location, great value for money

    from

Very modern rooms, clean lines, spotless.

Breakfast great, good selection, helpful staff.

Evening meal in the bar/ restaurant was good value and well cooked.

    Centrally located.

Great value compared to other hotels very close by.

    Modern Hotel

    from

The hotel is part of Basel convension center where all major exhibitions and confrences held. the tram station is cross the street, where you can reach the city center in tram no.6 after 5 or 6 stops. or you can walk 15 minutes and cross the river to reach the city center with all major shopping brands, cafes and restaurants. the hotel gave us transportation card where we can use the tram during our stay. the hotel is very modern (glass building) and the room wall is completly from glass. the best thing is the bathroom which completly very modern with lighting floor!. It is probably the best hotel in the lovely city of Basel.

    Good location, Modern Hotel

    from

Hotel is situated across from Tram station, easily accessable. Room key-card activated the elevators. Room had full floor to ceiling windows, great view of Basel. Bathroom had funky lighting, floor lit up. Fresh fruit was at the front desk. Breakfast was good, but pricey, better off walking down the road to eat. Everything was within walking distance anyway.

Possibly the coolest hotel in the world.

    from

We had a corner room about 5 floors up with epic views over the city.

The windows are floor to ceiling.

The bathroom was lined in green glass, even the floor; that was lit from beneath!! We turned of all the lights except the "floor light", and shared a very romantic bath.

The bar is situated in wing of the hotel that cantilevers over the square below.

The design is very comtempory, which i would expect from the Swiss.

If you are in the design field, you really should check this place out.

Shame we were only there one night.

    Very good hotel & location

    from

This is a well run hotel that lives up to the Ramada reputation.

Rooms are very clean and modern with a bathroom you will not want to leave!

You get a free tram card from reception upon arrival but it is a very short walk to the center to see all the tourist attractions.

The rooms have a safe, TV and A/C.

Breakfast was amazing, it has everything, smoke salmon, eggs, sausage, breads, cheese ,fruit, cooked meats and even champagne!!!!!

    my advice book now.

    Excellent hotel

    from

This is a safe and well-maintained business hotel with central location in Messeplatz. Rooms are tastefully decorated and have windows from top to floor. There are even lights in bathroom floor, which was an interesting detail. At least from 10th floor rooms the sights over Basel are remarkable. This hotel belongs to the highest residential building in Switzerland and it is a sight in itself. In a clear weather you can see even to France and Germany from the top floors of the hotel. We had a pre-paid deal from Octopustravel, only 77 euros per night per room, which I consider a bargain for a hotel of this quality. Do not forget to ask a free mobility card from reception, although you can easily walk anywhere in the center.

... With Breisach on one side of the Rhine being German and France being on the other side of the river, quite a few people live on the French side where rents are cheaper and work on the German side where wages are higher. This is the Kaiser Stuhl area and the wine of the region is Burgundy - White and red. They also grow cherries, berries, apples, apricots, strawberries and other fruits for schnapps and white asparagus. In summer this is the hottest part of Germany ...

... is a nice day in Vienne but as I feared it deteriorated as the day progressed and we headed further north. Not long before we reached the Swiss border the rain was steady though not heavy. The cloud was very low so the beautiful Swiss countryside did not appear to be so beautiful today. Then like an Easter Saturday miracle, the rain stopped and there were even some patches of blue as we crossed through the border checkpoint just near ...

Spending time with family in Denzlingen

We could not have had a better time for our first stop in Germany. It was wonderful spending time with my (Tasha) relatives Beate and Michael in Denzlingen just outside Freiburg. They shared the history of my family tree, showed us around, opened up their home, and were just wonderful to spend time with. Upon arrival Beate took us to a great viewpoint of all Freidburg at the top of a hill. At the start of the Black Forest this hill had a spectacular view and ...

... a place to eat lunch. Most of the restaurants were outdoor cafes and it was too cool to sit outside. We found a restaurant that had pizza. We were with Herb, Marsha, and Ellie. We knew prices were very high in Switzerland and kmhad passed restaurants with $50 and $60 meals. We taught pizza would be a good idea. The restaurant was lovely and a 10 inch pizza was $25 francs! We ordered 3 pizzas for the ...

... to explore this area. We are actually staying in Untersee which is across a small bridge from Interlaken. We had a lovely lunch sitting outside at the Hotel Krebs. We had been up early that morning so we took a short nap in the afternoon and later that evening went out for dinner at the restaurant next door to our hotel. On Saturday we planned to take the day and visit the Jungfrau. However clouds were laying over the mountains and it did not seem like it was a good day ...
