Historical Traveler Reviews Ramada Plaza Basel Hotel And Conference Center
As we had never been to Basel before, we booked this hotel based on price and after reading reviews on tripadvisor. We booked a regular room but were given an upgrade on arrival to a lovely suite. Very modern and spotlessly clean. Bathrooms a good size and the underfloor lighting was certainly different. Excellent food in the restaurant and staff who spoke English, French, German.....American! Thoroughly excellent hotel.
Very Modern Hotel
We stayed a week at the Ramada Basel with a group of 85 Americans. The hotel was absolutely wonderful - not a complaint from anyone in the group.
The checkin was the most efficient I have ever seen for a large group. They had rooms pre-assigned and keys ready. The buses arrived from Zurich airport before noon - and just about everyone was checked in within 1/2 hour. Even though check in time is normally 3pm, only a few people had to wait for their rooms to be cleaned.
The breakfast buffet was wonderful, including eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, cereal, bread, meat, cheese, juice, etc.
The location is great, with a tram stop right by the hotel that gets you anywhere in Basel in 15 minutes or less. Lots of restaurants and shops close by.
The hotel is very modern and the rooms are especially so. Floor to ceiling windows in every room gave absolutely spectacular views. I loved sleeping with the shades open and the stars clearly visible. The blinds are inside the windows and automatically close when the sun is coming in brightly (though you can manually open them). The bathrooms are very modern with interesting fixtures and a lighted floor. Easy internet access including a pay computer in the lobby.
The staff was always friendly, efficient and helpful - all spoke English to some degree.
No need for a car in Basel, the public transportation system is outstanding.
I would absolutely recommend a stay in this hotel to anyone.
And be sure and try the disco bathrooms out. The disco is on the top floor and the bathrooms also have floor to ceiling windows! Luckily it's high enough up that no one can see details!
Be sure and do a ferry ride while you're in Basel. No motors, the current just carries them across the river along a guide wire.
Gute Lage, modernes Hotel
Fantastische Lage, sehr preiswert
Fantastic location, great value for money
Very modern rooms, clean lines, spotless.
Breakfast great, good selection, helpful staff.
Evening meal in the bar/ restaurant was good value and well cooked.
Great value compared to other hotels very close by.
The hotel is part of Basel convension center where all major exhibitions and confrences held. the tram station is cross the street, where you can reach the city center in tram no.6 after 5 or 6 stops. or you can walk 15 minutes and cross the river to reach the city center with all major shopping brands, cafes and restaurants. the hotel gave us transportation card where we can use the tram during our stay. the hotel is very modern (glass building) and the room wall is completly from glass. the best thing is the bathroom which completly very modern with lighting floor!. It is probably the best hotel in the lovely city of Basel.
Good location, Modern Hotel
Hotel is situated across from Tram station, easily accessable. Room key-card activated the elevators. Room had full floor to ceiling windows, great view of Basel. Bathroom had funky lighting, floor lit up. Fresh fruit was at the front desk. Breakfast was good, but pricey, better off walking down the road to eat. Everything was within walking distance anyway.
Possibly the coolest hotel in the world.
We had a corner room about 5 floors up with epic views over the city.
The windows are floor to ceiling.
The bathroom was lined in green glass, even the floor; that was lit from beneath!! We turned of all the lights except the "floor light", and shared a very romantic bath.
The bar is situated in wing of the hotel that cantilevers over the square below.
The design is very comtempory, which i would expect from the Swiss.
If you are in the design field, you really should check this place out.
Shame we were only there one night.
Very good hotel & location
This is a well run hotel that lives up to the Ramada reputation.
Rooms are very clean and modern with a bathroom you will not want to leave!
You get a free tram card from reception upon arrival but it is a very short walk to the center to see all the tourist attractions.
The rooms have a safe, TV and A/C.
Breakfast was amazing, it has everything, smoke salmon, eggs, sausage, breads, cheese ,fruit, cooked meats and even champagne!!!!!
my advice book now.
This is a safe and well-maintained business hotel with central location in Messeplatz. Rooms are tastefully decorated and have windows from top to floor. There are even lights in bathroom floor, which was an interesting detail. At least from 10th floor rooms the sights over Basel are remarkable. This hotel belongs to the highest residential building in Switzerland and it is a sight in itself. In a clear weather you can see even to France and Germany from the top floors of the hotel. We had a pre-paid deal from Octopustravel, only 77 euros per night per room, which I consider a bargain for a hotel of this quality. Do not forget to ask a free mobility card from reception, although you can easily walk anywhere in the center.

Its always a little awkward doing this wild camping thing. Its not officially illigal, but its definitely not somethig that parents teach their kids. When jan climbed out the tent this morning, he startled an early morning dog walker who wasnt quite sure what to make of the situation.
We packed up rather quickly after that, and breakfasted on the almighty coco-pops. Om-nom-nom! We never buy this **** at home, but on a bike tour, we can ...
... right feeling turned into pain, and then into alot of pain by the end of the day. I guess this made me a rather irritating travel partner to jan. Tough. It hurt.
At some point we decided we wanted pizza for lunch. Up until now weve been having light lunches and then cooking something heavy for dinner... saving money and what not. But today, because its sunday, and all the shops are closed, and we have no food, and ...
... could only see it from the outside,
and it was under pretty major construction. I'm sure it's very
impressive, but our timing was just a bit off. The rest of Freiburg was
pretty built up and commercialized, mostly due to it being a college
town I'm sure. It wasn't one of my favorite places in Germany thus far,
but like all German towns, it did have some cool architecture. One
hallmark of the Schwarzwald region is the natural springs. ...
... Even my little home town is buzzing on a Sunday morning. We did happen upon a military ceremony of some kind. They had a bugler, lots of French flags and they played the French national Anthem.....wish I could remember the words....Sheryl?? LOL We popped into the Textile Museum but unfortunately it was closing at midday and not reopening until 2pm. The siesta is alive and well in Mulhouse. For €9 we kept going. If you were interested in the history and design ...
... the back streets of old town Basel to scope it out. I even made my way to the banks of the Rhine River, a short 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. Yvonne stayed back at the hotel, unpacking and simply relaxing as she did not sleep as much as I did on the planes.
It was an early to bed night as we needed to catch up on the missed sleep from the previous night. Tomorrow we start exploring!
