Drove from Calgary to Clive, a little village north-east of Red Deer. We are staying with David's cousins, Paul and Darlene, who came to Australia and stayed with us a couple of years ago. It is great to see them. We stayed here for around 10 days, visiting family members and seeing some of the sights of Alberta. We saw historic homes where David's family ancestors lived (David's grandfather and his wife came from Canada ...

In our quest for the library, we stumbled upon the most beautiful city gardens! What a find in a roundabout way! Since Senica has a broken toe we cannot walk all over the town. I love how we found the highlights just a few blocks from the bus station!

Well so much for the wonderful winter's day. Yesterday morning I awoke to temperatures hovering around -28C with snow falling and a nasty wind. The snow continued almost unabated all day. Last night the temperature dropped to -32C. This morning the snow is gone, the sky is blue and the sun is shining ...

Home again. -13C and sunny. The ground is covered in snow and the lake is frozen solid. This may not seem pleasant to my southern friends but those of us who live here call this a gorgeous winter's day ...

... language with other non-natives is a headache. Everyone is struggling to articulate and I don't get the same sense of accomplishment as I do when speaking in French with a French person. Because it was just a weekend with as much French crammed in as possible, everyone was exhausted by about 6pm. The grand Saturday night petered out with most people in bed before midnight, and a lot of moaning and complaining in our limited French ...
