Overnight flight to Norway!

A travel blog entry by sojanet on Jul 30, 2014

... day early to get ready. He said he has a mobile kitchen and doesn't use any local ingredients (they are all flown in... I guess you don't want to risk the players getting sick!). I asked him for trade secrets, and he said it's all pretty basic: lots of protein, lots of carbs, some fat. I told him he could write a cookbook and become famous, and he laughed and said that would violate his contract. Oh well! Then ...

This past weekend, I headed out to Doughton Park along the Blue Ridge Parkway for a challenging 17-mile circuit hike. I met up with Robin and we carpooled out, arriving at the trailhead on Long Bottom Road at about 930. Good night, love ...

... and Sam, two of our leaders, and their cheery selves and some good conversation made me feel much better, more alive and awake. We stopped to play on some hay bales before cruising into lunch around mile 40. By this time, I felt a lot better. I made another stop with Taylor, Annie, Lorraine, and Kim (an alumna) for a bathroom break and some scratch ...

... climbing up Rocky Knob, the highpoint in the recreation area. Just past the old AT shelter is a nice overlook, where we stopped to eat lunch. The Appalachian Trail once went through this area, but was rerouted for the Blue Ridge Parkway. After lunch, we continued on the trail, down from Rocky Knob to the Rock Castle Gorge overlook and on towards Grassy Knoll. The trail runs through several areas where cows ...
