Historical Traveler Reviews of Ramada Limited Jersey City
Fine neighborhood, fine hotel
from taxpayer
The neighborhood seems safe because people are out late at night, and restaurants and stores are open late. Staying four nights, I found the hotel to be clean, staff unfailingly helpful, room quite adequate. Of course in many cities the price would be outrageous, but for New York it's very reasonable. The continental breakfast is pretty good, including cereal and hardboiled eggs, though the coffee is terrible. (For good coffee go to Twin Donuts, near the PATH station.) My only real gripes: The breakfast room and the exercise room aren't effectively air-conditioned.
Great hotel!

My family and I stayed at the Ramada Limited on June 30 through July 3/05. We needed a hotel that was close to NYC but not NYC prices. This hotel was great! The rooms were very clean and big. The continental breakfast was good with a lot of variety. I would say that the best feature of this hotel is that it is very close to the PATH station which takes you directly into NYC. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.

If you approach a stay at this hotel with your eyes wide open, and know what to expect, you will have a great trip. First and formost, this is a 2* property so don't expect anything more. The hotel itself is a converted apartment building built in the 1920's. It's located in a semi-residential area of other apartment buildings and multi-family housing. I probably wouldn't live there, the immediate area is a bit run down. The main street, John F Kennedy Boulevard is a block away and although there is no GAP or Starbucks, it is busy during the day with shoppers. The best features of this hotel include the free shuttle from Newark Airport, free High Speed internet, a free continental breakfast with great coffee, and its only two blocks from the Journal Square PATH station and $3.00 roundtrip that takes you to either lower Manhattan or as far as Hearld Square @ 33rd street. My room was spacious and when I reported a mal-functioning air conditioner, I was moved to a different room that was fine. Every employee was great to work with and that was probably the best of all features. Finally, there is a little surprise in the form of a roof deck, take the elevator to the 5th floor and walk up to the roof and enjoy morning coffee or watch the sun go down. Yes, there are no restaurants around, so plan on dining elsewhere or settle for take out Chinese or Pizza. By the way, there is a little island, just east of this hotel that has limitless world class dining options....its called Manhattan!!
Easy access to NY

Ok hotel near NYC. We were going to stay here two nights, but the second night the power went out at the hotel and with out air conditioning they move us to another hotel at around midnight because it was just to hot and humid to stay there. Our room was very large with two rooms, king bed in one and double bed in the other room. Breakfast was good. Staff was very friendly and helpfull. My only complaint was that the air conditioner in our room the first night wasn't working very well, would go on and off all night. Would consider staying here agian if I knew for sure the air conditioner worked.
Great place

Ideal choice for people who want to save money by not staying in NYC directly, my double room was big (two complete bedrooms), kitchenette with micro, fridge and coffee machine. Laundry facilities, gym, roof garden, supermarket nearby, fantastic breakfast buffet, friendly staff, clean and inviting hotel. Traveling to NYC by PATH is very easy and quick. I would stay there again anytime!!!

I'm going in this hotel with a group of 40 people! It's very clean, the breakfast is fantastic and service too!
It's 5 minutes walking to Path train that will connect you in only 20 minutes to Manhattan!!
In the night it's a dangerous area... if you walk is better in group and not only! So, this is the only bad thing! I will come back soon here !!!!!

Nasty place

I checked into the Ramada Limited mainly because of the proximity to the PATH station and of course its prices. But you get what you pay for. It is in a *dangerous* neighborhood (you don't want to go walking at night, that's for sure), the lighting is all dim and fluorescent, the carpets are so old there are holes in addition to stains, the bathroom is dingy and tiny, there are holes in the walls. No restaurant in the hotel, and the only choice for takeout was Domino's or chinese food. The list goes on. The only plus was free high speed internet access. I checked out the very next day.
Satisfactory Experience

My boyfriend and I needed a inexpensive hotel in or near NYC pretty last minute, and I got a good deal on this one on a discount site (I think it was Orbitz). It was located very convienent to public transportation to NYC (2 blocks from Journal Square). The hotel itself looks a bit old from the outside. The lobby is small but very nicely kept. The staff was helpful and courteous. As for the room itself, it was a bit small but for what we paid that was fine. It was very clean. The only thing this hotel really lacks is aesthetics. The rug and curtains in the room were a bit tacky and cheap looking, and the hallways have painted concrete walls and look straight out of an old college dorm. But since we really only needed a clean, comfortable bed to pass out in for a night, I was completely satisfied with the Ramada Inn.
