We headed to Blowing Rock which is a small town in the lower Smoky Mountains near Boone. The town is delightful and would have been really enjoyable to stay for a few days. Of course a soccer ball had made the hike with us and so we juggled at the top of the mountain, always being careful not to send it over the edge. The road trip was great - we made it with 10 minutes to spare (that's an eternity!). Pearson had created a sweet road trip playlist and the time flew (even with multiple traffic jams along the way). ... This was just as well, perhaps, as the screen at Bessamer-King's Mountain was a serious mess. Neither drive-in is in very good shape (see side-by-side) photos, but the people are nice and, despite lines like you wouldn't believe for the snack bar and the bathrooms (even the men's room had a LONG line out into the parking lot continuously all night, through both movies), no one got angry—not customers and not staff. ...
